Natural Source Zone Depletion of Crude Oil in the Subsurface: Processes Controlling Mass Losses of Individual Compounds

open access: yesWater Resources Research
At many petroleum hydrocarbon spill sites, residual spilled product forms a long‐term source of groundwater contamination. The phrase source zone natural depletion is used to refer to the mass loss rates.

Oxamethacin: A Pilot Field Survey

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 1979
Two hundred sixty-four general practice patients were treated with oxamethacin (100 mg b.i.d.) and 261 with indomethacin (50 mg b.i.d.) for a maximum period of two weeks. Both drugs showed equally good analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Thirty-six patients (14%) treated with oxamethacin and sixty patients (23%) treated with indomethacin reported

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Fractional Gaussian fields: A survey

open access: yesProbability Surveys, 2016
We discuss a family of random fields indexed by a parameter $s\in \mathbb{R}$ which we call the fractional Gaussian fields, given by \[ \mathrm{FGF}_s(\mathbb{R}^d)=(-Δ)^{-s/2} W, \] where $W$ is a white noise on $\mathbb{R}^d$ and $(-Δ)^{-s/2}$ is the fractional Laplacian. These fields can also be parameterized by their Hurst parameter $H = s-d/2$. In

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Benthic macroinvertebrate response to estuarine emergent marsh restoration across a delta-wide environmental gradient

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Benthic invertebrates play vital roles in estuarine ecosystems, but like other taxa they have been excluded from former marshlands by diking and land use conversion.

Assessing locations susceptible to shallow landslide initiation during prolonged intense rainfall in the Lares, Utuado, and Naranjito municipalities of Puerto Rico [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Hurricane Maria induced about 70 000 landslides throughout Puerto Rico, USA, including thousands each in three municipalities situated in Puerto Rico's rugged Cordillera Central range. By combining a nonlinear soil-depth model, presumed wettest-case pore

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
