Size effects in the thin films of order - disorder ferroelectrics subject to the depolarization field

open access: yes, 2004
The films of order-disorder type ferroelectrics were considered in the mean field approximation taking into account depolarization field. It was shown that size effects in this system could be described on the base of bulk system equation of state with ...

Dip coating in the presence of a substrate-liquid interaction potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this work we investigate theoretically the Landau-Levich problem of dip coating in the presence of a strong interaction potential normal to the substrate.

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Analysis on Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication in Grease-lubricated Ball Bearings Considering Film Thickness Correction

open access: yesJixie chuandong
To study the lubrication characteristics of grease-lubricated rolling ball bearings, such as film thickness and pressure variations in elastohydrodynamic lubrication with elliptical point contact, a numerical analysis model of elastohydrodynamic grease ...

The Film Thickness Effect on Electrical Conduction Mechanisms and Characteristics of the Ni–Cr Thin Film Resistor

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2016
The electrical conduction mechanisms of Ni-Cr thin film resistor are demonstrated by different film thickness through scattering models fitting. The resistivity and temperature coefficient of the resistance of Ni-Cr thin film are measured to investigate ...

Finite size effects with variable range exchange coupling in thin-film Pd/Fe/Pd trilayers

open access: yes, 2010
The magnetic properties of thin-film Pd/Fe/Pd trilayers in which an embedded ~1.5 A-thick ultrathin layer of Fe induces ferromagnetism in the surrounding Pd have been investigated.

Monodomain to polydomain transition in ferroelectric PbTiO3 thin films with La0.67Sr0.3MnO3 electrodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Finite size effects in ferroelectric thin films have been probed in a series of epitaxial perovskite c-axis oriented PbTiO3 films grown on thin La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 epitaxial electrodes. The film thickness ranges from 480 down to 28 A (7 unit cells).

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.
