An Unusual Complication of a Postcataract Filtering Bleb
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1997Abstract. Inadvertent blebs are sometimes encountered after cataract surgery using sutured limbal incisions. A number of surgical techniques have been described in the planned management of such blebs. Occasionally, an intraoperative bleb rupture may occur. The authors describe a rotational scleral autograft technique that can help in the management of

Remodeling Filtering Blebs with the Neodymium:YAG Laser
Ophthalmology, 1996To describe a new method of treating large, overfiltering, leaking blebs using a continuous-wave neodymium:YAG laser.Twenty-three eyes of 23 patients underwent YAG laser remodeling because of overfiltration and hypotony (group 1; n = 14); leaking bleb and hypotony (group 2; n = 5); and large, irritating bleb (group 3; n = 4).

Lensectomy and vitrectomy in the presence of filtering blebs
International Ophthalmology, 1987We describe a technique for preserving a filtering bleb in glaucoma patients undergoing pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy. It involves making a conjunctival incision away from the filtering site and injecting the anterior chamber and bleb with (hyaluronic acid) Healon before vitreous surgery is begun.

Surgical Management of a Dysfunctional Filtering Bleb
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 2002Abstract. This case report presents a patient who developed a large overhanging bleb following antimetabolite trabeculectomy surgery 6 years prior. Complaints included decreasing vision and foreign body sensation for several months. Successful excisional surgery with placement of compression sutures was performed. Visual acuity and intraocular pressure

Blebs fail when the conditions necessary for their continued existence cease to exist. They need a steady flow of aqueous humor to maintain a passageway at the outer edge of the scleral fistula and to distend the interstitial space within the bleb or else connective tissue cells in the episclera and Tenon's capsule may bridge across and fill in those ...

Surgical repair of leaking filtering blebs
Ophthalmology, 2000To report the surgical management of leaking filtering blebs occurring after blebitis or persistent hypotony.Retrospective, noncomparative case series.Twenty-two eyes of 20 patients with late bleb leak, blebitis or endophthalmitis, hypotony maculopathy, or bleb dysesthesia on presentation to the glaucoma service who required surgical bleb revision from

Surgical Management of Encapsulated Filtering Blebs
Ophthalmology, 1985Encapsulated filtering blebs associated with elevated intraocular pressure or symptomatic dellen formation, unresponsive to conservative therapy, developed in 24 of 222 eyes following glaucoma filtering surgery over a five-year period, an incidence of 11%. Nine of 13 eyes were treated successfully with primary needling of the bleb.

Filtering Blebs: Follow Up of Trabeculectomy
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1993ABSTRACT We retrospectively reviewed the results of 88 primary trabeculectomies with 1- to 5-year (mean, 3-year) follow up in an attempt to correlate the biomicroscopic appearance and function of the filtering bleb with intraocular pressure (IOP), and to detect possible risk factors for bleb failure.

Bleb Needling in Encapsulated Filtering Blebs: Evaluation by Optical Coherence Tomography
Ophthalmologica, 2009Purpose: To evaluate the role of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) in describing the morphology and outcome of encapsulated filtering blebs after bleb needling. Procedures: Prospective assessment of 9 patients – before, 2 days and 6 months after filtering bleb needling with 5-FU – using slit-lamp ...
