Microscopy assisted fabrication of a hydrogel-based microfluidic filter [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2015
A porous filter is fabricated directly inside a microfluidic circuit using a photoreticulable hydrogel. The filter could be used for separation of cells from blood, removal of particles or solutes, such as proteins, in microdialysis and microfiltering ...

Duality and the topological filtration

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate some relations between the duality and the topological filtration in algebraic K-theory. As a result, we obtain a construction of the first Steenrod square for Chow groups modulo two of varieties over a field of arbitrary characteristic ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

On the Slice Spectral Sequence

open access: yes, 2013
We introduce a variant of the slice spectral sequence which uses only regular slice cells, and state the precise relationship between the two spectral sequences.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Electrostatic separator of cannabis trichomes: an innovative approach to extraction

open access: yesJournal of Cannabis Research
Background Efficient separation of trichomes from plant material is critical for producing high-quality cannabis extracts. Traditional methods of separation, such as wet and dry fractionation, use the difference in mechanical properties (size, density ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Research on the application of magnetic separation technology for the removal of black powder in natural gas pipelines

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun
ObjectiveBlack powder, primarily composed of magnetic corrosion products, accumulates in natural gas pipelines, causing various issues when its concentrations exceed specific limits, including frequent blockages of filter elements and abnormal shutdowns ...

Filtration Performance of Dual-layer Filter Paper with Fibrillated Nanofibers

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Filter paper can be dramatically improved by the slip-flow effect and the huge specific surface area of nanofibers. Nanofibers can provide significant improvement in filtration efficiency with a relatively small reduction in permeability.
