Fin Ray Stiffness and Fin Morphology Control Ribbon-Fin-Based Propulsion
Soft Robotics, 2017Ribbon-fin-based propulsion has rich locomotor capabilities that can enhance the mobility and performance of underwater vehicles navigating in complex environments. Bony fishes using this type of propulsion send one or multiple traveling waves along an elongated fin with the actuation of highly flexible rays that are interconnected by an elastic ...

Fin Efficiency of Serrated Fins
Heat Transfer Engineering, 2002Fin efficiency of serrated fins was analyzed and an analytical solution of the theoretical fin efficiency was derived in the form of a function of modified Bessel functions. Furthermore, an approximate equation has been given which enables one to calculate the theoretical fin efficiency with a pocket calculator with an accuracy of - 1.5%.

The performance of different plate-fins such as wavy fins, corrugated fins, perforated fins, pin-fins, pin-fin arrays, wire meshes, metal foam fins, and packing has been presented in this chapter. The use of plate-fins for cooling heat sinks has also been discussed.

This concluding chapter briefly turns to Joyce’s final work, Finnegans Wake (1939). Joyce’s cacophonous ‘book of the dark’, with its many references to cinema, forms the centre of a discussion of the emergence of sound film. The importance of touch in both silent and sound film is restated through reference to the film criticism of Bryher, Dorothy ...

Judging by the number of present-day aircraft which have suffered changes of fin shape, it is clear that there is still some difficulty in estimating the size and shape of fin required on a new project. In this paper some of the principles on which fin design is based will be explained, and some of the difficulties involved described. It is necessary to
