Endocrine and androgenic response to altitude training in professional cyclists

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Steroidal and endocrine variables are altered during altitude training. Abstract This study investigated endocrine and steroidal blood markers in 31 male elite cyclists monitored over 7 weeks, including a 3 week altitude training camp either at 2050 m (n = 19) or 3000 m (n = 12).

Advancing Thermotolerance in Beans: Integrating Physiology, Genomics, and Breeding for Climate Adaptation

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Rising global temperatures increasingly threaten bean production and the food security of millions of people who depend on these protein‐rich legumes. Heat stress during the reproductive stages induces pollen sterility, flower abscission, and disruptions in source–sink relationships, resulting in yield losses of 30%–40% or more when critical ...

'Rice,' 'sorghum,' 'pearl millet' and 'finger millet' in Nilo-Saharan

open access: yes, 2023
This study overviews the geographical distribution of the terms for four major types of crops cultivated in Africa, ‘rice,’ ‘sorghum,’ ‘pearl millet’ and ‘finger millet’ in Nilo-Saharan languages. Most Nilo-Saharan languages lack a native term for ‘rice,’ but a number of languages attest a loanword from Arabic or Swahili.

Investigation on antioxidants, free radical scavenger and lipid peroxidation activities of whole grains finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology, 2017
This study evaluates the antioxidant potential and free radical scavenging ability of whole grain finger millet. The crude extracts were obtained by cold maceration using 80% ethanol and methanol.

Ultrasonication as a Green Processing Technology for Modulating the Physico‐Chemical, Rheological and Proximate Properties of Pearl Millet and Bambara Groundnut Flours

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ultrasonication has emerged as an environmentally friendly processing technology for modifying the functional characteristics of food materials; however, its effects on underutilized cereal–legume systems remain insufficiently understood. This study investigated the influence of ultrasonication amplitude (25%–75%) and treatment duration (30–60

Liking Without Endorsing: Consumer Dilemmas in Responses to AI‐Generated Music

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, Volume 43, Issue 9, Page 2229-2244, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Despite a growing literature documenting consumer aversion to AI‐generated creative output, AI‐generated music has achieved notable success in the marketplace, with some songs achieving chart placements and attracting millions of streams.

Farmers’ Perceptions of Finger Millet Production Constraints, Varietal Preferences and Their Implications to Finger Millet Breeding in Uganda

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Science, 2014
Finger millet is an important food security and cash crop in Uganda but its production is constrained by a number of factors. However, information on farmers’ perceptions of constraints and varietal preferences is limited. A study was conducted to; identify varieties and varietal preferences in finger millet, and assess farmers’ constraints to finger ...

Integration of Biochar and Rainwater Harvesting to Improve Pearl Millet (Pennisetum glaucum) in Semi‐Arid Regions of Zimbabwe

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Crop production has been declining in semi‐arid areas over the past two decades due to several biophysical constraints, including soil infertility and water stress induced by low rainfall. The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the effects of biochar and rainwater harvesting techniques on soil moisture content, bulk ...

Genetic analyses of leaf traits in an interspecific Zoysia japonica × Zoysia matrella F2 population

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Zoysiagrass (Zoysia spp.) is an important warm‐season turfgrass cultivated across tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions of the world. The genus is characterized by the presence of salt‐secreting glands on the adaxial leaf surface, which contribute to its high salt tolerance.
