The volunteer’s dilemma in finite populations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Economics, 2021
AbstractWe study the long-run stochastic stability properties of volunteering strategies in finite populations. We allow for mixed strategies, characterized by the probability that a player may not volunteer. A pairwise comparison of evolutionary strategies shows that the strategy with a lower probability of volunteering is advantaged.

The Efficiency of a Ratio Product Estimator in the Estimation of the Finite Population Coefficient of Variation

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Ratio product estimators have been proposed by several authors for the estimation of the population mean and population variance, but very few authors have proposed ratio product estimators for the estimation of the population coefficient of variation ...

Analysis of Finite Population Stochastic modeling with State-Dependent Arrival and Service Facilities

open access: yesRatio Mathematica, 2022
This paper investigates a stock-dependent arrival process(SDAP) and queue-dependent service process(QDSP) in the stochastic queueing-inventory system(SQIS). The arriving units in the system are generated from the finite source population.

Oscillatory Finite-Time Singularities in Finance, Population and Rupture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present a simple two-dimensional dynamical system where two nonlinear terms, exerting respectively positive feedback and reversal, compete to create a singularity in finite time decorated by accelerating oscillations. The power law singularity results

Dynamic Properties of Evolutionary Multi-player Games in Finite Populations

open access: yesGames, 2013
William D. Hamilton famously stated that “human life is a many person game and not just a disjoined collection of two person games”. However, most of the theoretical results in evolutionary game theory have been developed for two player games.

LETHALS IN FINITE POPULATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesEvolution, 2002
It has been assumed, based on theoretical studies, that lethals with the level of dominance estimated from experimental studies would have an allele frequency that is virtually independent of effective population size. However, here it is shown numerically that the expected frequency of lethals with low levels of dominance is also dependent on finite ...

Orthogonal decomposition of finite population L-statistics

open access: yesLietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, 2009
In this paper we study orthogonal decomposition of finite population L-statistics. We propose quite simple form of first two terms of such decomposition.

Cram\'{e}r-type large deviations for samples from a finite population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cram\'{e}r-type large deviations for means of samples from a finite population are established under weak conditions. The results are comparable to results for the so-called self-normalized large deviation for independent random variables.

Near-periodic substitution and the genetic variance induced by environmental change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate a model that describes the evolution of a diploid sexual population in a changing environment. Individuals have discrete generations and are subject to selection on the phenotypic value of a quantitative trait, which is controlled by a ...

Selection Response in Finite Populations [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics, 1996
Formulae were derived to predict genetic response under various selection schemes assuming an infinitesimal model. Account was taken of genetic drift, gametic (linkage) disequilibrium (Bulmer effect), inbreeding depression, common environmental variance, and both initial segregating variance within families (σAW02) and mutational (σM2) variance.
