Sorption Kinetics of Fipronil on Soils

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2014
Sorption kinetics of fipronil was studied on five soils of varying physico-chemical properties by batch equilibration method. Fipronil sorption on soils conformed to pseudo-second order kinetics and both the initial uptake rate and rate constant had a significant and positive correlation with clay content.

Insecticidal activity of the enantiomers of fipronil

Pest Management Science, 2003
Abstract The two enantiomers of the insecticide fipronil were made by preparative HPLC. The insecticidal activities of the racemic mixture and the two enantiomers against selected agricultural or household pests (cotton stainer, Dysdercus cingulatus F; grain weevil,

Elucidation of Fipronil Photodegradation Pathways

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2000
The phenylpyrazole insecticide fipronil (I) photolyzes to its desthio product (II) in aqueous solution. However, the necessity of an intervening oxidation to a sulfone intermediate (III) has not been resolved, and the photodegradation products of II have not been identified.

Analytical Method for Fipronil and Fipronil Sulfone in Livestock Products Using LC-MS/MS

Food Hygiene and Safety Science (Shokuhin Eiseigaku Zasshi), 2020
A rapid and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of fipronil and fipronil sulfone (metabolite B) in livestock products was developed. The analytes were extracted from samples with acidic acetonitrile. The crude extracts were subjected to clean-up step using neutral alumina cartridge column.

Synthesis of fipronil sulfide, an active metabolite, from the parent insecticide fipronil

Tetrahedron Letters, 2001
Abstract A convenient procedure for the synthesis of fipronil sulfide, one of several active metabolites identified from the insecticide fipronil, has been developed. Reduction of fipronil with trifluoroacetic anhydride–sodium iodide in acetone, followed by flash chromatography afforded fipronil sulfide in 60% yield and >99.9 percent purity.

Rapid and Sensitive Quantitation of Fipronil and Its Metabolites Fipronil Sulfone, Fipronil Sulfide, and Fipronil Desulfinyl in Zebrafish Tissues by UHPLC‐MS/MS

Journal of Separation Science
ABSTRACT An ultra‐high performance liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC‐MS/MS) method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of fipronil and its three metabolites (fipronil sulfone, fipronil sulfide, and fipronil desulfinyl) in zebrafish tissues.

Sorption and Desorption of Fipronil in Midwestern Soils

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2009
Fipronil, {5-amino-1-[2,6-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-[(trifluoromethyl)sulfinyl]-1H-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile} is commonly applied to soil to protect structures against termite infestations. The fate and bioavailability of fipronil in soil is dependent upon the variability of sorption processes and will differ from soil to soil.

Efficacy of fipronil in the treatment of feline cheyletiellosis

Veterinary Parasitology, 2005
The purpose of the present study was to confirm the efficacy of 10% (w/v) fipronil spot-on (Frontline spot-on for cats) in the treatment of feline cheyletiellosis under field conditions. A total of 16 cats of different breeds, sexes, 4 months to 14 years of age and weighing 0.5-6 kg were treated with a single topical application of 10% (w/v) fipronil ...

Cytotoxicity of fipronil on mice liver cells

Microscopy Research and Technique, 2012
AbstractIn the present study, mice livers were examined following exposure to different doses of fipronil (15, 25, and 50 mg/kg). Histological and histochemical techniques were used to determine the cytotoxic potential of this compound and to assess the damage it caused to livers.

Enantioselectivity in fipronil aquatic toxicity and degradation

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2009
Abstract Fipronil and its transformation products are being increasingly detected in aquatic ecosystems as a result of widespread use. Fipronil is a chiral compound, and enantioselectivity may greatly impact its environmental fate and effects.
