Catch and release: controlling eastern yellowjacket Vespula maculifrons colonies using horizontal insecticide transfer

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 10, Page 4863-4870, October 2024.
The current study evaluated the trap–treat–release technique for controlling field populations of the eastern yellowjacket, Vespula maculifrons. Laboratory experiments demonstrated that fipronil is highly effectively against V. maculifrons across a wide range of concentrations.

Unraveling the interaction of co‐encapsulated Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Metarhizium brunneum in calcium alginate‐based attract‐and‐kill beads

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 10, Page 5131-5140, October 2024.
Co‐encapsulated Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Metarhizium brunneum interacted beneficially but also competed for resources. Depending on the composition of beads, steep oxygen gradients with internal hypoxic zones and temporary severe acidification occurred.

A rodent and tick bait for controlling white-footed mice (Peromyscus leucopus) and blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis), the respective pathogen host and vector of the Lyme disease spirochetes.

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
A promising alternative approach to conventional vector and rodent control practices is the use of a bait containing a rodenticide and acaricide in controlling vectors and pathogen reservoirs concurrently.

Quantifying the role of termite decomposition in a mesic savanna

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 4, July 2024.
Savanna ecosystems are highly vulnerable to climate and land‐use changes yet lack precise assessments of carbon cycling. In a large‐scale termite suppression experiment, we found that termites accounted for two thirds of the mass loss from dry wood and a third of the mass loss from fresh native wood, dry dung, and dry grass.

Development of Deltamethrin‐Laced Attractive Toxic Sugar Bait to Control Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) Population

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Background. The attractive toxic sugar bait (ATSB) is a promising strategy for controlling mosquitoes at the adult stage. The strategy is based on the use of a combination of fruit juice, sugar, and a toxin in order to attract and kill the adult mosquitoes.

Combinatorial Potential of bait matrix against subterranean termites under lab and field conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bait matrix of different treatments were evaluated against two termite species i.e. Odontotermes obesus and Coptotermes heimi both under laboratory and field conditions. Mean wood consumption in laboratory bioassays were investigated for 2, 4 and 6 weeks
