Changing fire regimes in the Great Basin USA

open access: yesEcosphere
Wildfire is a natural disturbance in landscapes of the Western United States, but the effects and extents of fire are changing. Differences between historical and contemporary fire regimes can help identify reasons for observed changes in landscape ...

A Predicted Correlation Between Age Gradient and Star Formation History in FIRE Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We explore the radial variation of star formation histories in dwarf galaxies simulated with Feedback In Realistic Environments (FIRE) physics. The sample contains 9 low-mass field dwarfs with M_ star = 10^5 - 10^7 M_sun from previous FIRE results, and a

Review of Thin Lithium Metal Battery Anode Fabrication – Microstructure – Electrochemistry Relations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thin, lightweight lithium‐metal anodes are pivotal for practical high‐energy batteries. This review surveys processing routes that convert diverse Li precursors, e.g., ingots, melts, solutions, and vapor, into Li‐rich foils with controlled thickness, areal density, and tailored functionality.

Species and canopy cover map development using Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper imagery for Grand Canyon National Park [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Overstory vegetation maps of species and canopy cover were developed from Landsat 7 Thematic Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellite imagery. Ecosystem Monitoring plot data, collected during the 1997-2001 field seasons, were used as training sites for the ...

Extracting non-linear integrate-and-fire models from experimental data using dynamic I–V curves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The dynamic I–V curve method was recently introduced for the efficient experimental generation of reduced neuron models. The method extracts the response properties of a neuron while it is subject to a naturalistic stimulus that mimics in vivo-like ...

Excited State Opto‐Ionic Reservoir Computing in Hybrid Perovskite Electrochemically‐Gated Luminescent Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A neuromorphic computing system exploiting opto‐ionic modulation in lead halide perovskite microcrystals demonstrates high‐dimensional reservoir dynamics with diffraction‐limited node resolution. Leveraging ultrafast excited‐state interactions, it achieves efficient computation (800 pJ/node‐operation), robustly distinguishing 4‐bit pulse sequences ...

Fire Effects and Fire History of Mesa Verde National Park

open access: yesThe UW National Parks Service Research Station Annual Reports, 1991
Mesa Verde consists of a series of mesas in a north to south trend. The mesa tops are narrow strips, cut by numerous canyons of varying depth. Mesa Verde sandstones, particularly the Cliff House Formation, form the canyon slopes. Long Mesa, an area of focus in this study, has an elevation 2180 m at the south to 2517 m at the north end.
