Fish assemblages across the Mediterranean Sea and the effects of protection from fishing = I Popolamenti ittici nel Mediterraneo e gli effetti della protezione dall’impatto della pesca [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Several studies have assessed the effectiveness of individual marine protected areas (MPAs) in protecting fish assemblages, but regional assessments of multiple parks are scarce.

Cinnamic‐Hydroxamic‐Acid Derivatives Exhibit Antibiotic, Anti‐Biofilm, and Supercoiling Relaxation Properties by Targeting Bacterial Nucleoid‐Associated Protein HU

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cinnamic‐hydroxamic‐acid derivatives (CHADs) are identified as novel inhibitors of the bacterial nucleoid‐associated protein HU, exhibiting potent antibacterial, anti‐biofilm (both inhibition and eradication), and DNA relaxation (anti‐supercoiling) activities. Moreover, CHADs demonstrate strong synergistic effects with multiple antibiotics.

Growth of Pimelodus maculatus (Actinopterygii, Pimelodidae) in cages at different stocking densities [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2009
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of densities 8, 32, 56 and 80 fish/m3 on the productive performance of Pimelodus maculatus in 1m3 cages installed in 0.19ha earthen ponds without water renewal, located on private property in Santo Amaro da ...

Fish predation pressure on zooplankton in a large northern temperate lake: impact of adult predators versus juvenile predators; pp. 356–367 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, 2018
In recent decades, a marked decrease in planktivorous fish (Osmerus eperlanus eperlanus m. spirinchus Pallas and Coregonus albula (L.)) in Lake Peipsi has stimulated research into the potential effect of fish predation on zooplankton.

Status of the Pacific Mackerel resource during 1997 and management recommendations for the fishery [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Based on a California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) projected biomass estimate of 91,200 metric tons for July 1, 1997, the recommended commercial fishery quota for the 1997/98 fishing season is 22,000 metric tons. Age-specific abundance for 1996 was

Habitat connectivity in reef fish communities and marine reserve design in Old Providence-Santa Catalina, Colombia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
On the insular platform of Old Providence/Santa Catalina, Colombia, we compared nearshore lagoonal patch reefs to those on the northern bank distant from the islands to determine the importance of habitat connectivity to fish community structure ...

Soybean Auxin Transporter PIN3 Regulates Nitrate Acquisition to Improve Nitrogen Use and Seed Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Xu et al. discovers that switching off auxin transporters in soybean, PIN3a and PIN3b, disrupts auxin flow; this triggers ARF‐STF3/4 signal cascade to activate the nitrate importer NPF2.13 and soil nitrogen acquisition. Multi‐year field trials show edited soybeans maintain yield with higher oil content, offering a potential genetic route to improve ...

An approach to estimate the natural mortality rate in fish stocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A simple approach is introduced to estimate the natural mortality rate (M) of fish stocks. The approach is based on the age at maximum cohort biomass, or critical length (L*) concept.

Analyzing drivers of fish biomass and biodiversity within community fish refuges in Cambodia [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2019
Freshwater social-ecological systems are shaped by site-specific characteristics, environmental change and annual fluctuations, and the actions of resource users and managers. Our primary aim is to analyze the relative effects of these multifacted forces on fishery productivity and biodiversity using the case of community-managed protected areas within

Navigating the Ethereal Tightrope: The Nanogenerator Manipulates Neurons for Immune Equilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores how nanogenerators modulate neuroimmune responses, offering innovative strategies for treating neurological disorders. By interfacing with neural pathways, they enable precise control of immune activity, especially via vagus nerve stimulation.
