Clustering Basque fishing communities
The main objective of this paper is to identify the taxonomy of Basque local fishing communities (FC) using a set of either, hierarchical (i.e. Ward, average and complete linkage), non-hierarchical (i.e. k-means and k-medoids) and mixed hierarchical-kmeans clustering algorithms; and two alternative fishing related variates at fishing community level, {

Response of potential fish community indicators to fishing [PDF]
AbstractFish community metrics and diversity indices have often been proposed as indicators to support an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management. The response of eight fish community indicators to spatio-temporal changes in fishing effort was studied by comparing the rate of change in (i) areas subject to different levels (high, medium, and low) of

Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Soft-bottom fishes and spatial protection: findings from a temperate marine protected area [PDF]
Numerous studies over the last decades have focused on marine protected areas (MPAs) and their effects on fish communities. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding how species that live associated with soft-substrates (e.g., sand, mud) respond to ...

Dietary complexity and hidden costs of prey switching in a generalist top predator
Variation in predator diet is a critical aspect of food web stability, health, and population dynamics of predator/ prey communities. Quantifying diet, particularly among cryptic species, is extremely challenging, however, and differentiation between ...
