Light Switchable Ionic Conductivity of Arylazopyrazole Modified Polysiloxanes
We present a polysiloxane functionalized with a novel arylazopyrazole dye that undergoes reversible photoisomerization. Upon lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide addition and UV irradiation, the polymer exhibits a shift in tan(d) toward higher frequencies and enhanced ionic conductivity.

Linking public perceptions of socioeconmic change and marine resource management in rural Maine [PDF]
Rural coastal regions across the United States are coping with dramatic social and environmental changes. Historically, these areas relied heavily on fishing and marine commerce and these economic activities defined the character of coastal communities.

Ecology of sound communication in fishes [PDF]
AbstractFishes communicate acoustically under ecological constraints which may modify or hinder signal transmission and detection and may also be risky. This makes it important to know if and to what degree fishes can modify acoustic signalling when key ecological factors—predation pressure, noise and ambient temperature—vary.

ABSTRACT Quantifying oral polymorphonuclear neutrophils (oPMNs) is a clinically validated approach for assessing periodontal inflammation. However, current methods, such as manual hemocytometry and flow cytometry, are time‐consuming (>3 h), require invasive sampling, and depend on staining and complex instrumentation, making them unsuitable for point ...

Complementary Non‐invasive Fish Monitoring Distinguishes Depth‐Dependent Fish Communities
Human activities are increasingly affecting marine environments, with fish communities serving as critical indicators of ecosystem health. Effective management of marine fishes is imperative for maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, necessitating

Dissecting the factors shaping fish skin microbiomes in a heterogeneous inland water system
Background Fish skin microbiomes are rarely studied in inland water systems, in spite of their importance for fish health and ecology. This is mainly because fish species distribution often covaries with other biotic and abiotic factors, complicating the

Improving coastal livelihoods through sustainable aquaculture practices - a report to the collaborative APEC Grouper Research and Development Network [PDF]
Wild-harvest fisheries for live reef fish are largely over-exploited or unsustainable because of over-fishing and the widespread use of destructive fishing practices such as blast and cyanide fishing.

We introduce an additively manufactured bioreactor with a perfusion flow system and integrated temperature and pH sensors for skeletal muscle tissue biofabrication. The bioreactor's performance was evaluated by assessing the viability, spreading of the myoblast cells in a printed scaffold, and contraction of the isolated murine musculi interossei ...
