Celebrating the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration program: 75 years of conservation and partnership success

open access: yes, 2013
Seventy-five years of successful wildlife management is the remarkable legacy of the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, and the cause of our 75th celebration. Along with the Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act, it is the foundation of the

Fish assemblages associated with natural and anthropogenically-modified habitats in a marine embayment: Comparison of baited videos and opera-house traps

open access: yes, 2013
Marine embayments and estuaries play an important role in the ecology and life history of many fish species. Cockburn Sound is one of a relative paucity of marine embayments on the west coast of Australia.

Composition of fish communities in macrotidal salt marshes of the Mont Saint-Michel bay (France) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
At least 100 fish species are known to be present in the intertidal areas (estuaries, mudflats and salt marshes) of Mont Saint-Michel Bay. These and other comparable shallow marine coastal waters, such as estuaries and lagoons, play a nursery role for ...

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates

Freshwater fish and crayfish communities of the tributaries of the Margaret River

open access: yes, 2009
Tributaries and headwaters of major rivers are known to be important spawning and nursery habitats of freshwater endemic fishes in south-western Australia (see for example the Collie River in Pen & Potter 1990, and the Blackwood River in Beatty et al ...

Cold Orthogonal Translation: A Psychrophilic Pyrrolysyl‐tRNA Synthetase Boosts Genetic Code Expansion in E. coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Orthogonal translation systems (OTSs) enable site‐specific incorporation of non‐canonical amino acids (ncAAs) and are central to genetic code expansion. Current engineering strategies typically rely on hyperstable aminoacyl tRNA synthetase (aaRS) scaffolds to tolerate destabilizing mutations required for substrate diversification.

Study on Fish Community and Similarity Characteristics in Nearshore Waters of Hainan Island [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Fishery Sciences
Fish stock serves as the foundation for fishery development and ecosystem stability. The Hainan Island, encompassing mangroves, coral reefs, estuaries, and upwelling systems, has rich diversity and distinct characteristics of fish communities in the ...

Gut Mycobiota‐Associated Tryptophan Catabolites Protect Against Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accumulating evidence suggests that the intestinal microbiota participates in the progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) through microbiota‐host interaction. However, the beneficial role of commensal mycobiota in MASLD progression remains poorly understood.

Freshwater fish and crayfish communities of the Carbunup and Buayanyup Rivers: conservation significance and management considerations

open access: yes, 2009
This study is the first to examine the fish and freshwater crayfish of the Carbunup and Buayanyup Rivers, south-western Australia. It aimed to determine the distribution of the fishes and freshwater crayfishes, their conservation significance and ...

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.
