Unbound sialic acids in fish eggs
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1960Abstract Relatively large quantities of sialic acids occur in an unbound form in trout eggs. Both N-glycolyl and N-acetylneuraminic acid are found within one cell, the trout egg. Preliminary studies on the permeability of the egg to free sialic acids are reported.

Publisher Summary Varying egg quality is one of the limiting factors for successful mass production of fish fry. It may also cause some of the variability in recruitment observed in many wild stocks, since poor egg quality may decrease the survival potential of the hatched larvae.

Egg quality and egg pigment content in salmonid fishes
Aquaculture, 1985Abstract The widespread belief in the superior quality of highly pigmented eggs is examined by bringing together evidence concerning the effect of the carotenoid content of salmonid eggs on their viability. It is concluded that, in rainbow trout, there is not a simple linear relation between these two quantities.

Chordata: Fish eggs and larvae
2017This chapter describes the taxonomy of fish eggs and larvae. Most fish eggs and larvae are planktonic, and are commonly found in plankton net tows. Collectively these fish stages are referred to as ichthyoplankton. The chapter covers their life cycle, ecology, and general morphology.

On fish eggs and larvae in the Skagerrak
Sarsia, 1968Abstract The distribution of fish eggs and larvae shows the importance of the current system in the Skagerrak. The Jutland, Baltic, and Norwegian (coastal) currents form together an anti-clockwise circulation which results in the ichthyoplankton drifting in a characteristic way.

Selenoproteins and Fish Egg Quality
2006This work analysed the selenoprotein glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in eggs of Sparus aurata. GPx was found in eggs before and after fertilization, in embryos during development, at hatching and during larval development. The content was very low in segmentation and organogenesis whereas increased at the end of embryogenesis and in larval ...
