Journal of Advanced Science, 2000 Fish freshness should be maintained by effect of tourmaline on water pH since the fish freshness is evaluated by concentrations of ATP related substances, which decompositions are controlled by the tourmaline. The tourmaline treatment maintains fish freshness for approximately 2 days longer.
