The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

From the lab to the field: Cooperation among fishermen [PDF]
We conduct a field experiment to measure cooperation among groups of recreational fishermen at a privately owned fishing facility. The parameters are chosen so that group earnings are greater when group members catch fewer fish, as in the Voluntary ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Endogenous Fishing Mortality in Life History Models: Relaxing Some Implicit Assumptions [PDF]
Life history models can include a wide range of biological and ecological features that affect exploited fish populations. However, they typically treat fishing mortality as an exogenous parameter.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Socioeconomic and bioeconomic performance of Philippine fisheries in the recent decades [PDF]
The fishing industry in the Philippines was tantamount to a marine capture fishery in the 1950s to 1960s. Aquaculture and inland fishery production were not significant.
