Design of a five-phase induction motor using flux distribution optimisation

3rd IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2006), 2006
The design of a five-phase induction motor stator by finite element analysis is discussed. Stator slot dimensioning to ensure optimised flux distribution with respect to five-phase winding systems is presented. The motor is constructed and tested to demonstrate conformance of the practical motor with the FEA model.

Five-phase induction motor behaviour under faulted conditions

2008 Annual IEEE India Conference, 2008
In this paper, simple phase variable model of a five-phase induction motor drive is presented. The model is implemented using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. A number of electrical faults which are common in inverter fed drives are created. The faults considered are open circuit faults in one phase and two phases.

Model predictive current control of a five-phase induction motor

IECON 2011 - 37th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2011
Model predictive control (MPC) of a multiphase induction motor drive is elaborated. A vector controlled, inverter fed five-phase induction motor is chosen as the platform for verification of the developed algorithm. Indirect rotor field oriented control (IRFOC) is implemented using MPC algorithm for current control, with the idea of achieving fast ...

Fault Detection Algorithm for Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive

2019 Applications of Electromagnetics in Modern Engineering and Medicine (PTZE), 2019
The paper presents the operation possibility of a five-phase induction motor drive for healthy conditions, and for open phase faults. This includes the investigation of the mechanical torque and current characteristics of the machine during the healthy and fault operation.

Assessing Variable Sampling Time Controllers for Five-Phase Induction Motor Drives

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2020
Finite control set predictive controllers perform a direct digital control of power converters without a modulation stage such as pulsewidth modulation. Opposed to the inherent positive traits such as high flexibility and enhanced bandwidth, an increase in harmonic content is usually reported.

Predictive Torque Control for five-phase induction motor drives

IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2010
Multiphase electric drives have been recently proposed for applications where the highest overall system reliability, combined with a reduction in the total power per phase, are required. Strategies like Field Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC) have been traditionally used in these high performance applications.

Modeling of a five-phase induction motor drive with a faulty phase

2012 15th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (EPE/PEMC), 2012
Fault-tolerance capability is one of the most attractive characteristics of multiphase machines for industrial applications. Resent research has proven that post-fault ripple-free operation is possible as long as the reference currents generate a smoothly rotating magnetomotive force (MMF).

Performance analysis of a five phase induction motor under unbalanced voltage supply

10th International Multi-Conferences on Systems, Signals & Devices 2013 (SSD13), 2013
Multi-phase (more than three-phase) systems have attracted much attention in the recent past both for power transmission and electric drives applications. The supply from the grid is prone to unbalance and also the winding structure may have some inherent unbalance. Multi-phase systems are more sensitive to such unbalance supply conditions.

Predictive Adaptive Model Based Control of a Five-Phase Induction Motor Drive

International Journal of Modelling and Simulation, 2010
AbstractThis paper presents the analysis for a model reference adaptive system (MRAS)-based sensorless vector control of five-phase induction machine. A linear neural network is designed and trained online by means of back propagation network (BPN) algorithm. Moreover, the neural adaptive model is employed in prediction and simulation modes.

New Switch Ladder Topology For Five Phase Multilevel Inverter Fed Five Phase Induction Motor

2018 International Conference on Recent Innovations in Electrical, Electronics & Communication Engineering (ICRIEECE), 2018
A five phase induction motor is modeled in the MATLAB simulink and a New Five Phase Multilevel Inverter is presented for the 5-ϕ IM to generate a maximum output voltage levels. In this topology symmetric and asymmetric source are considered and the output levels are analysed.
