Generation and Propagation Characteristics of an Auto-Ignition Flame Kernel Caused by the Oblique Shock in a Supersonic Flow Regime

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The auto-ignition caused by oblique shocks was investigated experimentally in a supersonic flow regime, with the incoming flow at a Mach number of 2.5.

Topology and flame speeds of turbulent premixed flame kernels in supersonic flows

open access: yesCombustion and Flame, 2019
Abstract Premixed flame kernels exposed to a mean expanding supersonic channel flow are examined using experiments and large-eddy simulations. Four cases, spanning three Mach numbers and two equivalence ratios, are explored. Numerical results are processed similarly to and compared with experimental data.

The regime diagram for premixed flame kernel-vortex interactions—Revisited [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2010
Regimes of flame kernel-vortex (KV) interactions are investigated numerically using a detailed mechanism for hydrogen chemistry. The parametric simulations explore a wide range of conditions that are representative of conditions encountered at various degrees of turbulence intensity.

Numerical Study and Experimental Validation of Minimum Ignition Energy for Microwave Spark Ignition

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Microwave plasma ignition has the potential for energy savings and emission reductions, and the minimum ignition energy (MIE) and the lean limit can be determined by microwave spark plugs (MSPs) under the same microwave power. To predict the relationship

A Development of a New Image Analysis Technique for Detecting the Flame Front Evolution in Spark Ignition Engine under Lean Condition

open access: yesVehicles, 2022
The aim of herein work is to develop an automatized algorithm for detecting, as objectively as possible, the flame front evolution of lean/ultra-lean mixtures ignited by low temperature plasma-based ignition systems. The low luminosity characterizing the

Numerical simulation on formation process of flame kernels.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 1988
The formation process of flame kernels in the ignition process by electric sparks has been investigated by using a numerical simulation, which employs unsteady two-dimensional cylindrical co-ordinate systems. In the simulation, effects of the value of the diameter of spark electrodes and the width of the spark gap on the calculated results are mainly ...
