Dynamics of Laterally Propagating Flames in X-ray Bursts. I. Burning Front Structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We investigate the structure of laterally-propagating flames through the highly-stratified burning layer in an X-ray burst. Two-dimensional hydrodynamics simulations of flame propagation are performed through a rotating plane-parallel atmosphere ...

Flame advection and propagation algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics, 1980
We present a simple algorithm for approximating the motion of a thin flame front of arbitrary shape and variable connectivity, which is advected by a fluid and which moves with respect to the fluid in the direction of its own normal. As an application, we examine the wrinkling of a flame front by a periodic array of vortex structures.

Effect of Temperature Conditions on Flame Evolutions of Turbulent Jet Ignition

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Turbulent jet ignition technology can significantly improve lean combustion stability and suppress engine knocking. However, the narrow jet channel between the pre-chamber and the main chamber leads to some difficulties in heat exchange, which ...

Flame Propagation on the Surfaces of Rapidly Rotating Neutron Stars during Type I X-ray Bursts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present the first vertically resolved hydrodynamic simulations of a laterally propagating, deflagrating flame in the thin helium ocean of a rotating accreting neutron star.

Regulation of Wages and Hours Prior to 1938 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1939
Direct numerical simulations are performed to investigate the transient upstream propagation (flashback) of premixed hydrogen–air flames in the boundary layer of a fully developed turbulent channel flow.

Prediction of hydrogen flame propagation in a channel with exit contraction [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The propagation of a flame front in a homogeneous and initially quiescent hydrogen-air mixture in a channel with exit contraction is numerically analyzed by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics.

Combustion regimes in sequential combustors: Flame propagation and autoignition at elevated temperature and pressure

open access: yes, 2018
This numerical study investigates the combustion modes in the second stage of a sequential combustor at atmospheric and high pressure. The sequential burner (SB) features a mixing section with fuel injection into a hot vitiated crossflow.

Numerical Study on Coupled Combustion of PMMA Counter-Directional Flame Spread at Variable Slope

open access: yesFire
This paper investigates the dual effects of slope variation and flame interaction on counter-directional flame propagation through numerical simulations of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) plates.

The Theory of Steady, One-dimensional, Laminar Flame Propagation for One-step Chemical Reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
The Theory of Steady, One-dimensional, Laminar Flame Propagation for One-step Chemical Reactions. The present status of the theory of one-dimensional, steady, laminar flame propagation for one-step chemical reactions is reviewed with particular emphasis ...

Premixed flame propagation in vertical tubes

open access: yes, 2015
Analytical treatment of premixed flame propagation in vertical tubes with smooth walls is given. Using the on-shell flame description, equations describing quasi-steady flame with a small but finite front thickness are obtained and solved numerically. It
