Virus dynamics with behavioral responses

open access: yesJournal of Economic Theory, 2023
Motivated by epidemics such as COVID-19, we study the spread of a contagious disease when behavior responds to the disease's prevalence. We extend the SIR epidemiological model to include endogenous meeting rates. Individuals benefit from economic activity, but activity involves interactions with potentially infected individuals.

A recursive-faulting model of distributed damage in confined brittle materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We develop a model of distributed damage in brittle materials deforming in triaxial compression based on the explicit construction of special microstructures obtained by recursive faulting.

Network–Behavior Dynamics

open access: yesJournal of Research on Adolescence, 2013
Researchers have become increasingly interested in disentangling selection and influence processes. This literature review provides context for the special issue on network–behavior dynamics. It brings together important conceptual, methodological, and empirical contributions focusing on longitudinal social network modeling.

Physiological units and behavioral elements: Dynamic brains relate to dynamic behavior [PDF]

open access: yesBehavioral and Brain Sciences, 2000
Nunez is to be applauded for putting forward a theoretical brain model. In order to improve any model it needs to be experimentally testable. The model presented in the target article suffers from insufficient clarity as to how new experimental designs could be derived.

A thermal lattice Boltzmann model for micro/nano-flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The dynamic behavior of charged micro and nanofluids plays a crucial role in a large variety of industrial and biological processes. Such dynamic behavior is characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of several competing mechanisms, such as ...

On the Dynamical Behavior of the ABC Model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Physics, 2011
We consider the ABC dynamics, with equal density of the three species, on the discrete ring with $N$ sites. In this case, the process is reversible with respect to a Gibbs measure with a mean field interaction that undergoes a second order phase transition.

Short-time dynamics and magnetic critical behavior of two-dimensional random-bond Potts model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The critical behavior in the short-time dynamics for the random-bond Potts ferromagnet in two-dimensions is investigated by short-time dynamic Monte Carlo simulations.

Behavioral dynamics of the affordance “graspable” [PDF]

open access: yesAttention, Perception, & Psychophysics, 2011
On a daily basis, one perceives whether an object affords grasping with one hand or with both hands. In experiments in which differently sized objects of a fixed type have been presented, the transition from using one manual mode to the other has depended on both the ratio of object size to hand span and the presentation sequence-that is, size ...
