Effects of compression and stretch on the determination of laminar flame speeds using propagating spherical flames

Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2009
The effects of flow compression and flame stretch on the accurate determination of laminar flame speeds at normal and elevated pressures using propagating spherical flames at constant pressure or constant volume are studied theoretically and numerically.

An optical study of in-cylinder CH2O and OH chemiluminescence in flame-induced reaction front propagation using high speed imaging [PDF]

open access: yesFuel, 2014
Flame-induced auto-ignition (FIAI), where spark-triggered flame propagation causes auto-ignition without engine knock, is one of the promising high-efficiency combustion modes.

Measurements of propagation speeds and flame instabilities in biomass derived gas–air premixed flames

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2011
Abstract Three biomass derived gases (BDGs, named GG-H, GG-L and GG-V), which are derived from industry facilities and can be useful for reducing CO2 and the application to combustors, are studied and examined for some basic flame characteristics such as unstretched laminar burning velocity, Markstein length, and cell formation over the entire flame ...

Flame Propagation Speed in SI Engines: Modeling and Experimental Assessment

ASME 2005 Internal Combustion Engine Division Fall Technical Conference (ICEF2005), 2005
The necessity for further reductions of in-cylinder pollutant formation and the opportunity to minimize engine development and testing time highlight the need of cycle simulation tools that have to accurately predict the effects of fuel, design and operating variables on engine performance. To develop reliable tools for indicated cycle simulation in SI

Investigation of the structure and propagation speeds of n-heptane cool flames

Combustion and Flame, 2019
Abstract Low temperature combustion of n-heptane was investigated through an experimental and numerical study of laminar cool flame structure and propagation speeds. Lean and stoichiometric n-heptane cool flames of equivalence ratios 0.4–1.0 were stabilized using a Hencken burner at sub-atmospheric pressures.

Structure and propagation speeds of turbulent premixed flames—A numerical study

Combustion and Flame, 1991
Abstract The aim of the work was to gain understanding of turbulent premixed flames, particularly the local flame speed and structure. Full numerical simulations were made for flames (with simple reactions and Lewis number unity) propagating in a constant density, isotropic turbulent flow; the Reynolds and Damkohler numbers were varied.

Effect of additional diluents on flame propagation speed and markstein length in outwardly propagating premixed methane/ethylene–air flames

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2018
An experimental study was conducted to understand the effects of additional diluents (CO2 and He) on unstretched flame speed and Markstein length in outwardly propagating spherical premixed CH4/C2H4–air flames at normal temperatures and elevated pressures of up to 0.3 MPa.

STUDY OF THE FLAME PROPAGATION SPEED OF A MIXTURE OF HYDROGEN AND FLUORINE

Химическая физика / Advances in Chemical Physics
Measurements of the flame propagation speed of H/F/O/He mixtures were carried out. The effect of the concentration of molecular hydrogen on the combustion rate has been studied. The lower concentration limit of hydrogen for the existence of combustion under the specified experimental conditions has been obtained.

On the extraction of laminar flame speed and Markstein length from outwardly propagating spherical flames

Combustion and Flame, 2011
Abstract Large discrepancies among the laminar flame speeds and Markstein lengths of methane/air mixtures measured by different researchers using the same constant-pressure spherical flame method are observed. As an effort to reduce these discrepancies, one linear model (LM, the stretched flame speed changes linearly with the stretch rate) and two ...

Propagation speeds and stretch rates measured along wrinkled flames to assess the theory of flame stretch

Combustion and Flame, 2003
Local propagation speeds and stretch rates were measured along a premixed flame that undergoes unsteady wrinkling in order to see if these two quantities correlate in the manner that is predicted by the theory of flame stretch. The Markstein number, which relates these two quantities, also was measured.
