Continuous Forest Fire Propagation in a Local Small World Network Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents the development of a new continuous forest fire model implemented as a weighted local small-world network approach. This new approach was designed to simulate fire patterns in real, heterogeneous landscapes.

Operando X‐ray Spectroscopy Study of Pd and Pd–Au Laterally Condensed Catalysts during Selective Acetylene Hydrogenation: The Role of Carbon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The selective hydrogenation of acetylene over laterally condensed Pd and Pd–Au catalysts (LCCs) was investigated using operando X‐ray absorption and photoelectron spectroscopy in combination with density functional theory. Pd‐LCCs were found to incorporate significantly more carbon into the metal lattice than Pd–Au LCCs, where the carbon uptake governs

Ignition and subsequent flame spread over a thin cellulosic material [PDF]

open access: yes
Both ignition and flame spread on solid fuels are processes that not only are of considerable scientific interest but that also have important fire safety applications.

Engineering Bilayer Tandem Catalysts on Si‐Based Photocathodes for High‐performance CO2 Reduction to Produce Methane

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu/Ag‐Cu bilayer tandem catalyst is designed for a pyramid‐structured p‐Si photocathode, creating multiple and functionally distinct interfaces tailored to specific reaction steps and intermediate stabilization. This Cu/Ag‐Cu‐decorated p‐Si photocathode exhibits both high photocurrent and good selectivity for photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction to CH4.

Comparison of flame spread and blow-off extinction over vertical and horizontal PMMA samples

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
Flame spread in the kinetic regime and eventual extinction have been studied for more than four decades for the implications on fire safety and flame instabilities. It is well known that the ratio between the residence time and the combustion time at the

On Simulating Concurrent Flame Spread in Reduced Gravity by Reducing Ambient Pressure [PDF]

open access: yes
The flammability of combustible materials in spacecraft environments is of importance for fire safety applications because the environmental conditions can greatly differ from those on earth, and a fire in a spacecraft could be catastrophic.

Quantitative Infrared Image Analysis Of Thermally-Thin Cellulose Surface Temperatures During Upstream and Downstream Microgravity Flame Spread from A Central Ignition Line [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Surface view calibrated infrared images of ignition and flame spread over a thin cellulose fuel were obtained at 30 Hz during microgravity flame spread tests in the 10 second Japan Microgravity Center (JAMIC).

Decoding NASICON and Its Metal Interface for Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review paper focuses on lithium‐ and sodium‐based NASICON solid electrolytes and their interfaces with metal anodes using a top‐down framework. It begins with NASICON fundamentals, elucidates anode‐induced failure mechanisms, surveys advanced characterization strategies to understand them, summarizes mitigation approaches, and concludes with a ...

Double In Situ Approach for the Preparation of Polymer Nanocomposite with Multi-functionality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A novel one-step synthetic route, the double in situ approach, is used to produce both TiO2nanoparticles and polymer (PET), and simultaneously forming a nanocomposite with multi-functionality. The method uses the release of water during esterification to
