Tonoplast‐Localized ABCC Transporters Enhance Heterologous Production of the Antidiabetic Montbretin A and Its Analogues in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 11, Page 5991-6006, November 2026.
ABSTRACT The plant‐derived specialized metabolite montbretin A (MbA) is under development as an improved treatment for Type 2 diabetes, a worldwide epidemic. MbA is an acylated flavonol glycoside so far only found in small amounts in montbretia (Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora) corms.

A Lambda Red Recombinase‐Assisted CRISPR/Cas9 System for Efficient and Precise Genome Editing in Agrobacterium tumefaciens

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 11, Page 6010-6027, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Agrobacterium tumefaciens is a powerful delivery tool for plant genetic transformation and a pivotal platform for agricultural biotechnology. However, laboratory strains of Agrobacterium have remained genetically unoptimized for decades, with genome engineering hindered by inefficient, endogenous homologous recombination systems.

Novel Amino Acid Changes Increase Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase Output in planta

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 11, Page 8306-8321, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Characterization of previously reported Arabidopsis mutants with increased aluminum (Al) resistance (alr) resulting from greater release of Al‐chelating malate identified three unique amino acid substitutions that each impacts PHOSPHOENOLPYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE 1, a key anaplerotic carbon fixation enzyme.

Sex‐dependent effects of a high‐fat diet‐induced obesity model on cerebrovascular health and brain metabolism

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 11, Page 5236-5249, 1 November 2026.
Abstract Mid‐life obesity is a major risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, with mitochondrial and cerebrovascular dysfunction considered key mediators. Lysine acetylation is a reversible post‐translational modification that regulates several mitochondrial metabolic and biochemical processes.

Tuning the Triazolotriazine Scaffold Toward Selective A3 Adenosine Receptor Antagonists: From Molecular Recognition to Neuroprotection

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Structure‐based optimization of the triazolo‐triazine scaffold afforded highly potent and selective adenosine A3 receptor antagonists. Replacement of the classical 2‐furyl group with phenyl‐based substituents markedly improved A3 receptor affinity and selectivity.

An Immobilized Marine Glycosyltransferase Acts as a Stabilized Biocatalyst for the Synthesis of Mannosylated Phosphoisoprenoids

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 20, 16 October 2026.
Mannosylated phosphoisoprenoids are generated by an immobilised glycosyltransferase as a sustainable approach towards the functionalisation of complex molecules. Glycosylated phosphoisoprenoids constitute valuable bioactive molecules and starting materials for complex glycosylation cascades.
