Spatially Resolved Metabolomics of Optimal Cutting Temperature (OCT) Compound‐Embedded Tumors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 12, Page 3038-3048, 15 December 2026.
ABSTRACT Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is emerging as a powerful tool for uncovering the distribution of metabolites in the tumor microenvironment and studying tumor metabolism in vivo. To date, MSI of biobanked tissues contextualized by patient data has been limited to peptides, proteins, and glycans—with few examples for metabolites.

The Fat‐Body Secreted Neuropeptide CCHa2 Signals Insulin‐Producing Cells in the Brain to Promote Sleep

open access: yesGenes, Brain and Behavior, Volume 25, Issue 6, December 2026.
A targeted screen reveals that the adipose‐derived signal from the CCHa2 neuropeptide signals the insulin‐producing cells to form a nutrient‐sensitive axis that controls sleep duration and intensity in Drosophila. ABSTRACT Sleep is a fundamental behavior regulated by diverse environmental and physiological cues.

Short‐Term Unacylated Ghrelin Administration Improves Pyruvate Tolerance Without Chronically Altering Skeletal Muscle, Liver, or Adipose Tissue Insulin Response in Healthy Rats

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 21, 15 November 2026.
Unacylated ghrelin (unAG) has been previously shown to acutely increase fatty acid oxidation (FAO) in skeletal muscle. 5 days of unAG administration to healthy male rats improved pyruvate tolerance, however this was not associated with changes in hepatic glucose‐production associated proteins.

The Boron–Neuron Connection: The Potential of Boron‐Containing Molecules for Treating Incurable Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 21, 12 November 2026.
Can a single element help address the multifactorial nature of ALS? Boron‐containing compounds combine responsiveness to reactive oxygen species (ROS), neuroprotective activity, and favorable pharmacological properties, offering a distinctive framework for disease modification in a complex disease like ALS.

Tropical Plantains, Tubers, and Roots: Advancing Food Quality, Safety, and Processing Innovations for Global Nutritional Equity

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2026.
Plantains, tubers, and roots (PTRs) represent strategic nutritional and caloric pillars for over 500 million people across tropical regions. This review evaluates traditional bioprocessing against eco‐innovative thermomechanical and non‐thermal technologies (HPP, extrusion, encapsulation) to overcome severe post‐harvest losses and antinutritional risks.

Harnessing the Horse for Human Osteoarthritis: microRNA‐181a‐5p Antisense Oligonucleotides in Clinically Normal Equine Fetlock Joints Are Safe and Well Tolerated

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Horses serve as a translational model for human osteoarthritis (OA) due to their comparable joint size, cartilage thickness, and incidence of naturally occurring disease. Overexpression of microRNA‐181a‐5p has been implicated in cartilage degradation in OA, and its inhibition using locked nucleic acid antisense oligonucleotides (LNA‐miR‐181a ...

Metabolomic Signatures of Longevity in Bivalves Reveal Reorganization of TCA Cycle and Amino Acid Metabolism

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2026.
Targeted metabolomics of gill and mantle tissues from five marine bivalve species spanning lifespans from approximately 30 to over 500 years revealed longevity‐associated metabolic signatures. Longer‐lived species exhibited reduced free amino acid pools, lactate, pyruvate‐related ratios, fumarate and malate, alongside increased succinate‐to‐fumarate ...

Methionine Regulates Antitumour Function of CD8+ T Cells Through Polyamine Synthesis

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 179, Issue 3, Page 418-433, November 2026.
Methionine restriction in vitro enhances CD8+ T cell effector function by suppressing polyamine synthesis and progressively induces the co‐expression of PD‐1 and TIM‐3. Consistently, sustained dietary methionine restriction diminishes the efficacy of adoptive T cell therapy (ACT) and promotes the expression of terminal exhaustion‐associated markers ...

Metabolic Rewiring of the Shikimate Pathway Enables Rose‐Scented Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 11, Page 5741-5759, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Rice fragrance is a key determinant of grain quality, yet the aroma profile of cultivated rice is highly uniform and largely dominated by the popcorn‐like compound 2‐acetyl‐1‐pyrroline. Here we expanded the aromatic repertoire of rice by engineering a rose‐like fragrance through reconstruction of the phenylalanine‐derived 2‐phenylethanol (2‐PE)
