Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Liposome immunoassay based on bio luminescent detection and its application to on-chip analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Luc-encapsulated liposomes were employed to develop on-chip immunoassays. Straight-channel chips were better than microbead for V-cup chips to immobilize several antibodies.

Three-dimensional flows in slowly-varying planar geometries

open access: yes, 2003
We consider laminar flow in channels constrained geometrically to remain between two parallel planes; this geometry is typical of microchannels obtained with a single step by current microfabrication techniques.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

New spectrum sensing method under time-variant flat fading channels

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2014
A dynamic state-space model (DSM) was presented for the problem of spectrum sensing under time-variant flat fading channels (TVFF).The primary user (PU) state and the fading channel were characterized as hidden states. On this basis,a novel method was ...

The wall effect in cavity flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
A non-linear theory for the calculation of the flow field of an oblique flat plate under blockage condition is given using the techniques of integral equations.

Bulk flow scaling for turbulent channel and pipe flows

open access: yes, 2016
We report a theory deriving bulk flow scaling for canonical wall-bounded flows. The theory accounts for the symmetries of boundary geometry (flat plate channel versus circular pipe) by a variational calculation for a large-scale energy length, which ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Enabling the Multi-User Generalized Degrees of Freedom in the Gaussian Cellular Channel

open access: yes, 2014
There has been major progress over the last decade in understanding the classical interference channel (IC). Recent key results show that constant bit gap capacity results can be obtained from linear deterministic models (LDMs).
