An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Ultra-high External Efficiency From Surface Textured Thin-film LEDs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Dire need for high external quantum efficiency (η_(ext)) visible light-emitting-diodes (LED's) is clearly seen as the flat panel display technology is rapidly evolves.

Electronic continuum states and far infrared absorption of InAs/GaAs quantum dots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The electronic continuum states of InAs/GaAs semiconductor quantum dots embedded in a GaAs/AlAs superlattice are theoretically investigated and the far infrared absorption spectra are calculated for a variety of structures and polarizations.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

High-yield Micro-LED laser transfer accomplished using an ablation-type release material

open access: yesAPL Materials
Micro light-emitting diode (Micro-LED) is a highly promising technology in the field of new displays, with the mass transfer process involved in its manufacturing process widely regarded as a major barrier to their further development.

Holographic Sampling Display Based on Metagratings

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Glasses-free three-dimensional (3D) display is considered as a potential disruptive technology for display. The issue of visual fatigue, mainly caused by the inaccurate phase reconstruction in terms of image crosstalk, as well as vergence and ...

Period-colour and amplitude-colour relations in classical Cepheid variables IV: The multi-phase relations

open access: yes, 2006
The superb phase resolution and quality of the OGLE data on LMC and SMC Cepheids, together with existing data on Galactic Cepheids, are combined to study the period-colour (PC) and amplitude-colour (AC) relations as a function of pulsation phase.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Displacement Sensing for Laser Self-Mixing Interferometry by Amplitude Modulation and Integral Reconstruction

open access: yesSensors
To robustly and adaptively reconstruct displacement, we propose the amplitude modulation integral reconstruction method (AM-IRM) for displacement sensing in a self-mixing interferometry (SMI) system.
