A genealogy of electronic moving image displays

open access: yesRebeca, 2016
This essay addresses one element of the ongoing process of moving image culture “going digital”, a process which includes the move to digital terrestrial broadcasting, the introduction of the digital video recorder, and the shift to digital formats in ...

Characterizing HR3549B using SPHERE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aims. In this work, we characterize the low mass companion of the A0 field star HR3549. Methods. We observed HR3549AB in imaging mode with the the NIR branch (IFS and IRDIS) of SPHERE@VLT, with IFS in YJ mode and IRDIS in the H band.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

On‐Chip Silicon‐Based Micro‐Reflector Pixelated with Micro‐Light‐Emitting Diodes for Augmented Reality Projection Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Augmented reality (AR) displays demand optical engines that are compact, efficient, and highly directional. While micro‐light‐emitting diodes (µLEDs) provide exceptional brightness, fast response, and low power consumption, their poor light extraction ...

A Perovskite-Based Photoelectric Synaptic Transistor with Dynamic Nonlinear Response

open access: yesPhotonics
Nonlinear characteristics are essential for neuromorphic devices to process high-dimensional and unstructured data. However, enabling a device to realize a nonlinear response under the same stimulation condition is challenging as this involves two ...

A survey of new technology for cockpit application to 1990's transport aircraft simulators [PDF]

open access: yes
Two problems were investigated: inter-equipment data transfer, both on board the aircraft and between air and ground; and crew equipment communication via the cockpit displays and controls.

Are tiled display walls needed for astronomy? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Clustering commodity displays into a Tiled Display Wall (TDW) provides a cost-effective way to create an extremely high resolution display, capable of approaching the image sizes now gen- erated by modern astronomical instruments.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Low-Power Driving Waveform Design for Improving the Display Effect of Electrophoretic Electronic Paper

open access: yesMicromachines
To address the high power consumption associated with image refresh operations in EPDs, this paper proposes a low-power driving waveform that reduces the refresh power of EPDs by lowering the system’s peak power.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
