Nonlinear Dynamic Behavior of a Flexible Structure to Combined External Acoustic and Parametric Excitation

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2006
Flexible structures are frequently subjected to multiple inputs when in the field environment. The accurate determination of the system dynamic response to multiple inputs depends on how much information is available from the excitation sources that act ...

Collective photothermal bending of flexible organic crystals modified with MXene-polymer multilayers as optical waveguide arrays

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The performance of any engineering material is naturally limited by its structure, and while each material suffers from one or multiple shortcomings when considered for a particular application, these can be potentially circumvented by hybridization with

Predicting vibrational failure of flexible ducting [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Technique applies to liquid or gas transfer through flexible ducting and proves valuable in high velocity fluid flow cases. Fluid mechanism responsible for free bellows vibrational excitation also causes flexible hose oscillation.

Spontaneous Emission in a Matter-Wave Open Quantum System

open access: yes, 2017
One of the paradigms of a small quantum system in a dissipative environment is the decay of an excited atom undergoing spontaneous photon emission into the fluctuating quantum electrodynamic vacuum.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Numerical analysis of unsteady forces in a pump-jet propulsor due to dynamic tip-clearance changes

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu
ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the effects of dynamic variations in rotor tip-clearance on the unsteady forces of a pump-jet propulsor, while analyzing the role of a flexible isolation system in influencing the excitation characteristics of the ...

High performance bilayer-graphene Terahertz detectors

open access: yes, 2013
We report bilayer-graphene field effect transistors operating as THz broadband photodetectors based on plasma-waves excitation. By employing wide-gate geometries or buried gate configurations, we achieve a responsivity $\sim 1.2V/W (1.3 mA/W)$ and a ...

Investigation of diesel generator shaft and bearing failures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A shaft failure in a 634 kW diesel generator after 4000 hours of operation required investigation, especially when similar sets began to show signs of excessive bearing housing wear.
