A Multi‐Task ConvoBiLSTM Model With Self‐Attention for Concurrent Forecasting of Traffic Accident Risk and Severity

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This study introduces a multi‐task deep learning framework that simultaneously forecasts both traffic accident risk and severity. By integrating convolutional neural networks, Bidirectional long short‐term memory (BiLSTM) units, and self‐attention mechanisms, the model captures complex spatiotemporal dependencies and improves predictive accuracy ...

Wind Turbine Optimization by Blade Element Momentum Method and Particle Swarm Optimization Technique

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The aerodynamic efficiency of wind turbines is greatly influenced by the shape of their airfoils. In this study, four airfoils were optimized to enhance the performance of a small horizontal axis wind turbine. The optimization process involved adjusting the thickness and camber of the airfoils using the blade element momentum method and particle swarm ...

Experimental Investigation of the Yaw Misalignment Effect on the Power Performance and System Loading of a Flapping‐Foil Hydrokinetic Turbine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 12, Issue 12, Page 5555-5565, December 2024.
Turbine attached to the train structure of the water‐circulating tunnel. ABSTRACT Hydrokinetic turbines (HTs) extract power by utilizing hydrodynamic forces from flow energy. The surplus load not used for power generation acts as a system load and must be considered when designing the turbine.

Grounding Zones: The “Inland” Dynamic Interface Between Seawater, Outlet Glaciers, Subglacial Meltwater Routing, and Ice‐Shelf Processes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 51, Issue 15, 16 August 2024.
Abstract Projections of sea‐level rise from ice‐sheet shrinkage in a warming world have large uncertainties, linked to limited knowledge of changes at the ocean‐ice sheet interface. This interface most typically is modeled as a grounding line, across which still‐connected ice flows into the ocean to float as an ice shelf, or where icebergs calve from a

Control of a flexible, surface-piercing hydrofoil for high-speed, small-scale applications [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2017
In recent years, hydrofoils have become ubiquitous and critical components of high-performance surface vehicles. Twenty-meter-long hydrofoil sailing craft are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 45 knots. Hydrofoil dinghies routinely travel faster than the wind and reach speeds up to 30 knots.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Cavitation Assessment for Runner Blades in a Francis Turbine

open access: yesAdvances in Tribology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Cavitation in hydro turbines causes component deterioration that requires continuous and costly maintenance in the hydroelectric power generation stations. The Tarbela Dam Hydel Project (TDHP) in Pakistan is facing a cavitation problem in the Francis Turbine components, such as the runner and draft tube.

The numerical study of the cavitation-structure interaction around 3D flexible hydrofoil

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2015
The closely coupled approach combined the Finite Volume Method (FVM) solver and the Finite Element Method (FEM) solver is applied to simulation the cavitation-structure interaction of a 3D cantilevered flexible hydrofoil in water tunnel. In the cavitating flow, the elastic hydrofoil would deform or vibrate in bending and twisting mode.

Flow-Induced Vibration of Flexible Hydrofoil Within Cavitating Turbulent Flow

open access: yes
The flow-induced vibration and cavitation dynamics of three-dimensional flow past a cantilever flexible hydrofoil are investigated using a large eddy simulation (LES) model, a homogeneous mixture cavitation model and the structural modes superposition method.
