Single‐use bioreactors (SUBs) have become crucial in bioprocessing, offering reduced contamination risks and efficient biomolecule synthesis. Research highlights their ability to achieve results comparable to conventional systems, particularly through optimized hydrodynamic conditions and wave mechanisms, making SUBs a reliable and adaptable solution ...

Development of a method for reliable power input measurements in conventional and single-use stirred bioreactors at laboratory scale [PDF]
Power input is an important engineering and scale-up/down criterion in stirred bioreactors. However, reliably measuring power input in laboratory-scale systems is still challenging.

Abstract Projections of sea‐level rise from ice‐sheet shrinkage in a warming world have large uncertainties, linked to limited knowledge of changes at the ocean‐ice sheet interface. This interface most typically is modeled as a grounding line, across which still‐connected ice flows into the ocean to float as an ice shelf, or where icebergs calve from a

The numerical study of the cavitation-structure interaction around 3D flexible hydrofoil
The closely coupled approach combined the Finite Volume Method (FVM) solver and the Finite Element Method (FEM) solver is applied to simulation the cavitation-structure interaction of a 3D cantilevered flexible hydrofoil in water tunnel. In the cavitating flow, the elastic hydrofoil would deform or vibrate in bending and twisting mode.

Investigation on Darrieus type straight blade vertical axis wind turbine with flexible blade [PDF]
In this study, a three-dimensional VAWT with a spanwise passively deformable flexible blade has been modelled. The study mainly focuses on the analysis of blade structure characteristics associated with the bending and twist deflection.

Cavitation in hydro turbines causes component deterioration that requires continuous and costly maintenance in the hydroelectric power generation stations. The Tarbela Dam Hydel Project (TDHP) in Pakistan is facing a cavitation problem in the Francis Turbine components, such as the runner and draft tube.

Flow-Induced Vibration of Flexible Hydrofoil Within Cavitating Turbulent Flow
The flow-induced vibration and cavitation dynamics of three-dimensional flow past a cantilever flexible hydrofoil are investigated using a large eddy simulation (LES) model, a homogeneous mixture cavitation model and the structural modes superposition method.

Vortex-enhanced propulsion [PDF]
It has been previously suggested that the generation of coherent vortical structures in the near-wake of a self-propelled vehicle can improve its propulsive efficiency by manipulating the local pressure field and entrainment kinematics.

Experimental Investigation into Modern Hydofoils-Assisted Monohulls: How Hydrodynamically Efficient are they? [PDF]
Despite the omnipresence of hydrofoil-assisted racing monohulls and the inherent development phases to refine their designs, very little scientific data has reached the public domain.
