We introduce ENHYDROSS, a new mechanistic model that uses optimal swimming speed and minimum cost of transport to estimate maximum dispersal distances and durations for vertebrates, enabling assessment of long‐distance oceanic dispersal potential. Applied to a range of extant and extinct animals, the model's estimates generally align with observed data;

Fluid–Structure Interaction Simulation of Vortex-Induced Vibration of a Flexible Hydrofoil [PDF]
Fluid–structure interaction (FSI) is investigated in this study for vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a flexible, backward skewed hydrofoil. An in-house finite element structural solver finite element analysis nonlinear (FEANL) is tightly coupled with the open-source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) library openfoam to simulate the interaction of a ...

Chemical Mechanical Polishing of Plasma‐Modified Cu/Polymer Interfaces for Advanced Hybrid Bonding
Hybrid bonding demands planarization of Cu/polymer interfaces, but soft polymers like benzocyclobutene (BCB) are difficult to polish by conventional chemical mechanical polishing (CMP). It is demonstrated that Ar plasma modification transforms BCB into a CMP‐compatible surface, enabling effective planarization and void‐free bonding.

Open‐Graded Friction Course (OGFC) mixtures for flexible pavements. ABSTRACT Open‐Graded Friction Course (OGFC) mixtures in flexible pavements are known for their efficient drainage characteristics, but concerns exist regarding their structural weaknesses and short lifespans. This study investigates methods to improve the mechanical performance of OGFC

Curvature-induced stiffening of a fish fin [PDF]
How fish modulate their fin stiffness during locomotive manoeuvres remains unknown. We show that changing the fin's curvature modulates its stiffness. Modelling the fin as bendable bony rays held together by a membrane, we deduce that fin curvature is ...
