Design and mechanical evaluation of a novel dynamic growth rod to improve the surgical treatment of early-onset scoliosis

open access: yesBone & Joint Research
Aims: Growth rods are the gold standard for treating early-onset scoliosis (EOS), but current treatments often fail to optimally promote spinal growth and require frequent distraction surgeries, leading to complications and significant burdens on ...

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Influence of Different Head and Neck Positions on Oropharyngeal Leak Pressure with the LMA Protector Airway: A Cross-over Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: The assessment of seal pressure or leak pressure in supraglottic devices has commonly been used to confirm device functionality and for research purposes regarding laryngeal mask airways (LMAs). When used for controlled ventilation, the LMA

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

A substantial proportion of subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis display spinal and peripheral proprioceptive deficits

open access: yesBone & Joint Open
Aims: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is considered a multifactorial disease, and proprioceptive deficit (PD) is evident as a potential associated factor.

MagmaFlow: A desktop platform for artificial intelligence‐driven expression analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MagmaFlow is a free, no‐code platform for gene expression analysis. It generates interactive volcano plots, links genes to literature, pathways, and diseases, prioritizes candidates using millions of publications, identifies affected biological processes, builds network diagrams, and exports publication‐ready figures and reports for macOS and Windows ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Bovine dystocia caused by carpal and shoulder flexion: A case report

open access: yesЖивотновъдни науки
The term dystocia comes from the Greek (dys – difficult, tocos – birth). The condition represents the inability of the fetus to pass through the birth canal. Dystocia is a major cause of increased mortality during labor.
