Study on How Expert and Novice Pilots Can Distribute Their Visual Attention to Improve Flight Performance

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
To explore how pilots’ distribution of visual attention affects flight performance, twenty male pilots (novices and experts with 407 ± 11.3 h and 4127 ± 77 h of flight experience, respectively) were enlisted to complete the ...

CHEOPS in-flight performance

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Since the discovery of the first exoplanet almost three decades ago, the number of known exoplanets has increased dramatically. By beginning of the 2000s it was clear that dedicated facilities to advance our studies in this field were needed. The CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS) is a space telescope specifically designed to monitor ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Model-Based Analysis of Lithium-Ion Battery Technology Predictions in Light-Sport Aircraft

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
A flight performance model was used to analyze the range capability of fully electric and hybrid-electric aircraft powertrains to determine their implementation feasibility compared to a similarly sized traditionally powered reference aircraft. Range was

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Wind Tunnel Experimental Study on the Flexible Flapping Wing With an Attached Airfoil to the Root

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
With the purpose to improve the performance of the flexible membrane flapping wing, a kind of flapping wing with an attached airfoil to the root is designed and tested in a wind tunnel.

Sex- and size-dependent variation in wing morphology of the cuckoo wasp Trichrysis cyanea (Hymenoptera: Chrysididae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2022
Intraspecific variation and sexual dimorphism in wing shape and size is common in winged insects. The exact patterns, however, differ among taxa and are related to the selection pressure acting on specific traits.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
