Direct Mode‐Resolved Measurement of Interfacial Phonon Transport by Acoustic Phonon Reflectometry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel analysis, acoustic phonon reflectometry, that measures the mode‐resolved phonon reflection coefficient at semiconductor interfaces. In aluminum nitride, we observe excellent agreement with the acoustic mismatch model across three distinct interfaces.

Towards ubiquitous and nonintrusive measurements of brain function in the real world: assessing blink-related oscillations during simulated flight using portable low-cost EEG

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience
Blink-related oscillations (BRO) are newly discovered neurophysiological phenomena associated with spontaneous blinking and represent cascading neural mechanisms including visual sensory, episodic memory, and information processing responses.

Identification of In-Flight Wingtip Folding Effects on the Roll Characteristics of a Flexible Aircraft

open access: yesAerospace, 2019
Wingtip folding is a means by which an aircraft’s wingspan can be extended, allowing designers to take advantage of the associated reduction in induced drag.

Flight Simulator for Serious Gaming

open access: yes, 2015
Providing entertainment is the primary concern of the gaming. Once this primary objective alters to provide learning and training materials it calls simulators or the serious gaming. Learning through experiencing or facing the actual scenario is considered as an effective learning technique.

Integrated control and display research for transition and vertical flight on the NASA V/STOL Research Aircraft (VSRA) [PDF]

open access: yes
Results of a substantial body of ground-based simulation experiments indicate that a high degree of precision of operation for recovery aboard small ships in heavy seas and low visibility with acceptable levels of effort by the pilot can be achieved by ...

Spin‐On SiOx‐Assisted Inkjet Printing for Interdigitated n+ and p+ Poly‐Si/SiOx Contacts in Silicon Solar Cells With Suppressed Unintended Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents an innovative spin‐on SiOx‐assisted inkjet‐printed approach to form localized n+ and p+ poly‐Si/SiOx passivating contacts for high‐efficiency silicon solar cells within a single‐annealing step. The developed process results in a well‐defined interdigitated doping pattern, with unintended doping and cross‐doping concentrations ...

Flight Trainee Performance Evaluation Using Gradient Boosting Decision Tree, Particle Swarm Optimization, and Convolutional Neural Network (GBDT-PSO-CNN) in Simulated Flights

open access: yesAerospace
Flight simulation training is one of the most important methods in early-stage civil aviation flight training. In this regard, flight simulation competitions are effective tools for evaluating the flight skills of trainees.

Parallel Electrical Integration of Photo Bio Electrochemical Systems (photo‐BESs): Performance Gains and Load Dependency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Parallel wiring of bioelectrochemical devices with conventional generators unexpectedly boosts output. A biophotovoltaic paired with a solar cell delivers up to 50% more power at low loads than their separate contributions; a plant microbial fuel cell shows similar current gains.
