Environmental Contamination Affects Associated Bacterial Communities in a Neotropical Arboreal Ant

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
Environmental stressors such as contamination from mining tailings can alter microbial communities associated with insects, including social ants. Ants, as widespread and ecologically influential insects with stable microbial associations, offer a relevant model to examine these effects.

Fluxos de calor no dossel vegetativo e infiltração de água no solo, em floresta tropical Heat fluxes in the vegetative canopy and water infiltration in tropical forest

The Flooding Gradient Affects Seed Dispersal by Fruit‐Eating Fishes in Amazonian Whitewater Floodplain Forests

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
This research approaches the interaction between frugivorous fish and the flooded forests in the central Amazon. We evaluated the fruit consumption by fish and the seed dispersal potential along the flood gradient. We tested the hypothesis that the role of fish as seed dispersers varies between low várzea (LV) and high várzea (HV) forests.

Biochemical Characterization of a Kunitz‐Type Protease Inhibitor From Mimosa regnellii and Its Effects on Melanoma Cell Viability and Angiogenesis

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2026.
A Kunitz‐type serine protease inhibitor (JTI) purified from Mimosa regnellii seeds selectively targets melanoma cells. JTI triggers mitochondrial apoptosis, increases ROS and Ca2+ levels, arrests the cell cycle, and suppresses migration and angiogenesis without affecting healthy cells.

Myxobiota of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest: species on oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis, Arecaceae)

open access: yesRodriguésia
Elaeis guineensis Jacq. (Arecaceae), the oil palm tree, serves as a phorophyte for many different groups of organisms, someof whichhelp decompose organic matter comingfromthe organs of the tree itself or fromremainsof other plants retained in leaf ...

A new species of Ribautiella (Myriapoda, Symphyla, Scolopendrellidae) from an Amazonian black-water inundation forest and notes on its natural history and ecology

open access: yes, 1984
Ribautiella amazonica is described from a black-water inundation forest near Manaus, Brazil. The genus is recorded for the first time for the Americas. R. amazonica was predominantly collected from the forest soil, mainly between 7 and 14 cm depth and is

Contribution of fungi to primary biogenic aerosols in the atmosphere: wet and dry discharged spores, carbohydrates, and inorganic ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Biogenic aerosols play important roles in atmospheric chemistry physics, the biosphere, climate, and public health. Here, we show that fungi which actively discharge their spores with liquids into the air, in particular actively wet spore discharging ...

Vegetation Components as Nature‐Based Solutions to Reduce Runoff and Soil Loss in a Brazilian Semi‐Arid Ecosystem

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 3, April/May 2026.
ABSTRACT Hydraulic roughness (log f) is invoked as an integrator of vegetation effects on overland flow in semi‐arid catchments, yet the quantitative contribution of individual cover components remains poorly resolved. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which shrub vegetation, surface litter and tree canopy modulate runoff generation ...
