Protection Management, Nurse Plants, and Diversity of Companion Species Influence Natural Regeneration of Pinus gerardiana in the Western Himalayan Pine Forests

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Studies examining the factors influencing the population density of keystone plant species offer valuable insights for forest management and conservation efforts. Utilization level, nurse plants, and abiotic factors significantly affect the natural regeneration of juvenile trees.

Molecular Genetic Characterization of the Diet of Limestone and Rainforest Langurs

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Using DNA metabarcoding of 419 fecal samples collected over 1 year, we characterized and compared the diets of four Trachypithecus species from rainforest and limestone habitats in Vietnam. Langurs consumed a remarkably high diversity of plants (122–129 genera across 59–73 families), with clear interspecific differences in dietary composition and ...

Flower Feeding and Reproductive Timing in Spix's Night Monkeys (Aotus vociferans): Evidence From Arboreal Camera Traps

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
This article provides new insights into the diet and reproductive biology of the Spix's night monkeys (Aotus vociferans). This evidence was collected using arboreal camera traps in a tropical mountain rainforest in Southern Ecuador, where documented information on this primate is rare.

Severe Climate‐Driven Range Contraction of Taverniera abyssinica A. Rich, an Endangered and Locally Popular Medicinal Plant in Ethiopia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Taverniera abyssinica, a critically endangered Ethiopian medicinal plant, faces severe habitat loss due to climate change. Using ensemble species distribution models (BRT, RF, GAM, GLM), we predict an 83.2% net reduction in suitable habitat under future climate scenarios.
