A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

Some Insights into Mechanisms Involved in Continuous Casting
A mathematical model of the continuous casting process for steel has been developed. This coupled model predicts metal flow, slag infiltration, shell solidification and heat flux. The model predicts values for the thicknesses of the solid and liquid slag

Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Numerical investigation of a jet in ground effect using the fortified Navier-Stokes scheme [PDF]
One of the flows inherent in VSTOL operations, the jet in ground effect with a crossflow, is studied using the Fortified Navier-Stokes (FNS) scheme. Through comparison of the simulation results and the experimental data, and through the variation of the ...

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Heat transfer and flow field in a circular twisted channel
In the present paper, along with experimental study, computational fluid dynamics analysis is performed, using the transition SST model which can predict the change of flow regime from laminar through transition to turbulent.

Channel Flow of a Tensorial Shear-Thinning Maxwell Model: Lattice Boltzmann Simulations
We introduce a nonlinear generalized tensorial Maxwell-type constitutive equation to describe shear-thinning glass-forming fluids, motivated by a recent microscopic approach to the nonlinear rheology of colloidal suspensions.

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Mechanism of mean flow generation in rotating turbulence through inhomogeneous helicity
Recent numerical simulations showed that the mean flow is generated in inhomogeneous turbulence of an incompressible fluid accompanied with helicity and system rotation.

Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.
