Effects on NOx and SO2 Emissions during Co-Firing of Coal With Woody Biomass in Air Staging and Reburning

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2018
Co-firing coal with different types of biomass is increasingly being applied in thermal power plants in Europe. The main motive for the use of biomass as the second fuel in coal-fired power plants is the reduction of CO2 emissions, and related financial ...

Development of a novel bioscrubbing process for complete treatment of NOx from flue gases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
[Abstract] In this study, a novel bioscrubber was developed for the complete treatment of NOx from flue gases. As a first step, an autotrophic ANNAMOX system was developed using ammonia as the electron donor and nitrate as electron acceptor generating ...

Polymer‐in‐Cage Strategy for Pore Tuning of High‐Aspect Ratio ZIF Nanoplate: Toward Sub‐Micrometer‐Thick Large Area CO2 Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A “polymer‐in‐cage” strategy transforms a zinc‐acrylate copolymer into an active pore‐modulating agent for ZIF‐8 nanoplates. The polymer actively tunes the MOF's pore structure by anchoring within its windows, while the nanoplates create tortuous pathways.

Co-Fuelling of Peat with Meat and Bone Meal in a Pilot Scale Bubbling Bed Reactor

open access: yesEnergies, 2010
Co-combustion performance trials of Meat and Bone Meal (MBM) and peat were conducted using a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) reactor. In the combustion performance trials the effects of the co-combustion of MBM and peat on flue gas emissions, bed ...

Dynamic modelling, validation and analysis of coal-fired subcritical power plant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Coal-fired power plants are the main source of global electricity. As environmental regulations tighten, there is need to improve the design, operation and control of existing or new built coal-fired power plants.

Climate Action Impacts on Steelmaking Emissions of Persistent Organic Pollutants Highlight a Gap Between the Paris Agreement and the Stockholm Convention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Emissions of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants (UPOPs) and global warming are two major environmental challenges. But their governance has largely evolved in parallel, leaving the toxicity implications of climate‐driven industrial transitions poorly understood.

Investigation of sewage sludge gasification with use of flue gas as a gasifying agent

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2017
The paper presents results of investigation of low-temperature sewage sludge gasification with use of flue gas as a gasifying agent. Tests were conducted in a laboratory stand, equipped with a gasification reactor designed and constructed specifically ...

Biotechnological aspects of sulfate reduction with methane as electron donor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Biological sulfate reduction can be used for the removal and recovery of oxidized sulfur compounds and metals from waste streams. However, the costs of conventional electron donors, like hydrogen and ethanol, limit the application possibilities.

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Carboranyl‐Curcuminoids for the Neutron Capture‐Based Treatment of Amyloid Aggregates in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 10B‐enriched monocarbonyl analog of curcumin (BMAC) 10B‐9 enables site‐specific Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) on amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils. Neutron irradiation induces histidine oxidation and fibril destabilization, as revealed by 1H‐NMR and FESEM analyses.
