A smoothed particle hydrodynamics solver for hydroelastic interactions between fluid and structure [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
There is still a lack of accurate and stable numerical solvers for Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI) problems involving violent fluid flows and large deformations of structures.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Vibroacoustic Modeling of Mechanically Coupled Structures: Artificial Spring Technique Applied to Light and Heavy Mediums

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1996
This article deals with the modeling of vibrating structures immersed in both light and heavy fluids, and possible applications to noise control problems and industrial vessels containing fluids. A theoretical approach, using artificial spring systems to

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Challenges of fully-coupled high-fidelity ditching simulations

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
An important element of the process of aircraft certification is the demonstration of the crashworthiness of the structure in the event of an emergency landing on water, also referred to as ditching.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Vibration characteristics of composite plates considering fluid-structure coupling

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering
In order to investigate the influence of fluid-structure coupling on the dynamic characteristics of the amphibious aircraft, the free vibration characteristics of composite plates in contact with a bounded fluid are studied based on the combination of ...

Numerical simulation of air arc impinging to chamber shell with multi-physical coupling method of fluid-thermal-structure

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
The air arc impinging to chamber shell during interruption current process were studied by experiments and numerical simulation. Firstly, strain characteristics of chamber shell were measured by the strain gauge, and the strain changing with times were ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Multiscale simulation of heat transfer in a rarefied gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a new hybrid method for dilute gas flows that couples a continuum- fluid description to the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) technique.
