Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Approximate Analytical Model for the Squeeze-Film Lubrication of the Human Ankle Joint with Synovial Fluid Filtrated by Articular Cartilage

open access: yes, 2010
The aim of this article is to propose an analytical approximate squeeze-film lubrication model of the human ankle joint for a quick assessment of the synovial pressure field and the load carrying due to the squeeze motion.

Non-linearity in experimental journal bearing dynamics - a new approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This article considers the effects of non-linearity in the dynamic properties of a journal bearing and presents a method of constructing the calculations needed in the identification of a non-linear dynamic model of the oil film.

Research and Experimental Verification of the Static and Dynamic Pressure Characteristics of Aerospace Porous Media Gas Bearings

open access: yesAerospace
Porous media gas bearings utilize gas as a lubricating medium to achieve non-contact support technology. Compared with traditional liquid-lubricated bearings or rolling bearings, they are more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Plain bearing stresses due to forming and oil film pressure

open access: yes, 2009
This paper describes a methodology for assessing critical stress ranges arising in automotive plain bearings during engine operations. An industry-produced and run simulation program provides information on oil film pressure and overall bearing ...

Inlet protein aggregation: a new mechanism for lubricating film formation with model synovial fluids. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper reports a fundamental study of lubricant film formation with model synovial fluid components (proteins) and bovine serum (BS). The objective was to investigate the role of proteins in the lubrication process.

Investigation of stiffness and damping coefficients in fluid film bearing with bio-oils and mineral-based oil

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
Rotating machinery utilizes fluid film bearings because of their good load carrying capacity and inherent damping properties. Fluid film bearings offer stiffness and damping parameters to ensure dynamic stability.

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Dynamic behaviour of oil lubricated journal bearings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
This thesis is concerned with the dynamic behaviour of oil lubricated journal bearings and particularly with the small vibrations about the equilibrium position known as 'oil whirl'.
