Frozen Fronts Selection in flow against self-sustained chemical waves

open access: yes, 2016
Autocatalytic reaction fronts between two reacting species in the absence of fluid flow, propagate as solitary waves. The coupling between autocatalytic reaction front and forced hydrodynamic flow may lead to stationary front whose velocity and shape ...

Numerical Simulation of the Fluid–Solid Coupling Mechanism of Internal Erosion in Granular Soil

open access: yesWater, 2020
Internal erosion involves migration and loss of soil particles due to seepage. The process of fluid–solid interaction is a complex multiphase, coupled nonlinear dynamic problem.

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Intrinsic relationship of vorticity between modes A and B in the wake of a bluff body

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2018
The intrinsic physical relationship of vorticity between modes A and B in the three-dimensional wake transition is investigated. Direct numerical simulations for the flow past a square-section cylinder are carried out at Reynolds numbers of 180 and 250 ...

Numerical and experimental study on the scale effect of internal solitary wave loads on spar platforms

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2020
Based on laboratory experiments and numerical simulations, the scale effect of Internal Solitary Wave (ISW) loads on spar platforms is investigated. First, the waveforms, loads, and torques on the spar model at a laboratory obtained by the experiments ...

Development of a moving model rig with a large Reynolds number and measurement of aerodynamic drag

open access: yesEngineering Reports, 2022
The principles and techniques for developing a moving model rig (MMR) driven by compressed air were introduced for moving model tests at large Reynolds numbers (≥106).

A Level Set Approach to Eulerian-Lagrangian Coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present a numerical method for coupling an Eulerian compressible flow solver with a Lagrangian solver for fast transient problems involving fluid-solid interactions.

Pore-scale modeling of fluid-particles interaction and emerging poromechanical effects

open access: yes, 2013
A micro-hydromechanical model for granular materials is presented. It combines the discrete element method (DEM) for the modeling of the solid phase and a pore-scale finite volume (PFV) formulation for the flow of an incompressible pore fluid.

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

Seepage-stress coupled modeling for rainfall induced loess landslide

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2019
Although rainfall is rare on the Loess Plateau of western China, landslides occur frequently there in rainy season. Surveys report that landslide hazards always follow heavy rains.
