Advances in Coupling Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Element Method in Geotechnical Problems

open access: yesGeotechnics, 2023
In some cases, the water content in granular soil increases to the extent that it becomes saturated, which noticeably alters its responses. For example, the pore water pressure within saturated granular soil would increase rapidly under sudden external ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Macroscopic No-Slip Boundary Condition Confirmed in Full Atomistic Simulation of Oil Film

open access: yesTribology Online, 2014
The no-slip boundary condition widely used in the macroscopic fluid mechanics has not been explained from the molecular level. This letter describes all atom molecular dynamics simulation to study boundary slip of hydrocarbon oil film under shear of a ...

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...

Investigations of smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for fluid-rigid body interactions

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this project is to investigate the capability of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method for fluid-rigid body interactions. SPH is one of the most widely used meshless methods which use particles to represent the system.

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Prognostic Value of Neurofilament Light Chain and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein in ALD‐Related Myelopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background X‐linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X‐ALD) is a neurometabolic disorder caused by pathogenic variants in ABCD1, leading to slowly progressive spinal cord disease in nearly all affected men. Sensitive biomarkers to quantify disease severity and predict progression are needed for clinical care and trial design.

Interaction Law for a Collision Between Two Solid Particles in a Viscous Liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This thesis addresses the problem of inter-particle collisions in a viscous liquid. Experimental measurements were made on normal and oblique collisions between identical and dissimilar pairs of solid spheres.

Surface wettability analysis using a microdroplet: a numerical approach

open access: yesTESEA, Transactions on Energy Systems and Engineering Applications
Analysis of hydrophobicity is essential for learning about the characteristics of molecules, surfaces, and materials that reject water. Using a two-dimensional (2D) pseudo-potential multiphase lattice Boltzmann approach with a D2Q9 model, this work ...

Analysis of solid particles falling down and interacting in a channel with sedimentation using fictitious boundary method

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
We have examined the behavior of solid particles in particulate flows. The interaction of particles with each other and with the fluid is analyzed. Solid particles can move freely through a fixed computational mesh using an Eulerian approach.
