Fluid Structure Interaction Using Modal Superposition and Lagrangian CFD

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study investigates the impact of fluid loads on the elastic deformation and dynamic response of linear structures. A weakly coupled modal solver is presented, which involves the solution of a dynamic equation of motion with external loads.

A simple example of a fluid‐structure coupling

open access: yesZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2009
AbstractIn this paper we study a simple case of fluid‐structure interaction. The ideal fluid is placed in a cylinder and it interacts with a piston attached to an elastic spring moving through the cylinder. The solution is computed by reduction to quadratures and described in details.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Fluid-structure Coupling Simulation Analysis of Angular Contact Ball Bearing

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2021
The lubrication condition of angular contact ball bearings in operation is crucial, and the lubricant directly affects the contact state of rolling bearings. In order to analyze the lubrication condition of angular contact ball bearings and the mechanical

Modal decomposition of fluid-structure interaction with application to flag flapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Modal decompositions such as proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) and their variants are regularly used to educe physical mechanisms of nonlinear flow phenomena that cannot be easily understood through direct inspection.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Vibration analysis of hydropower house based on fluid-structure coupling numerical method

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2010
By using the shear stress transport (SST) model to predict the effect of random flow motion in a fluid zone, and using the Newmark method to solve the oscillation equations in a solid zone, a coupling model of the powerhouse and its tube water was ...

SPH and ALE Formulations for Fluid Structure Coupling

open access: yesComputer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, 2013
Simulation of Fluid Structure Interaction FSI, problems becomes more and more the focus of computational engineering, where FEM (Finite element Methods) for structural mechanics and Finite Volume for CFD are dominant. New formulations have been developed for FSI applications using mesh free methods as SPH method, (Smooth Particle Hydrodynamic).

Existence of a weak solution to a nonlinear fluid-structure interaction problem modeling the flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid in a cylinder with deformable walls

open access: yes, 2012
We study a nonlinear, unsteady, moving boundary, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problem arising in modeling blood flow through elastic and viscoelastic arteries.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
