Metastability and nucleation in the dilute fluid phase of a simple model of globular proteins

open access: yes, 1999
The dilute fluid phase of model globular proteins is studied. The model possesses a fluid-fluid transition buried within the fluid-crystal coexistence region, as do some globular proteins.

Fluid-Fluid and Fluid-Solid transitions in the Kern-Frenkel model from Barker-Henderson thermodynamic perturbation theory

open access: yes, 2012
We study the Kern-Frenkel model for patchy colloids using Barker-Henderson second-order thermodynamic perturbation theory. The model describes a fluid where hard sphere particles are decorated with one patch, so that they interact via a square-well (SW ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Non-Linear Creep of Spherical Container with Fluid Under Increasing Pressure

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
This paper presents an analysis of the time-dependent response of a spherical container to internal pressure that increases over time. The wall of the container is relatively thin, in the sense that the wall thickness is negligible in comparison to the ...

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

DIETARY PRACTICES OF AEROBIC DANCERS AND BODYBUILDERS IN VHEMBE DISTRICT, LIMPOPO PROVINCE: ASSESSING THE NEED FOR NUTRITION INTERVENTION STRATEGIES

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Public Health Medicine
Introduction: Recreational sports have gained popularity in South Africa. However, the dietary practices of participants remain unknown. The study evaluated the nutrient and timing of intake of recreational sports participants in the Vhembe District (VD),

Nonlinear dynamic analysis of rotating pipe conveying fluid by the finite element method

open access: yesTransport, 2003
The rotating pipe conveying fluid is considered. Non-linear (geometrical non-linearity) equation of the motion of the pipe is derived using the finite element method.

Perfect hypermomentum fluid: variational theory and equations of motion

open access: yes, 1998
The variational theory of the perfect hypermomentum fluid is developed. The new type of the generalized Frenkel condition is considered. The Lagrangian density of such fluid is stated, and the equations of motion of the fluid and the Weyssenhoff-type ...
