Conformal fluid dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2006
We present a conformal theory of a dissipationless relativistic fluid in 2 space-time dimensions. The theory carries with it a representation of the algebra of 2-$D$ area-preserving diffeomorphisms in the target space of the complex scalar potentials. A complete canonical description is given, and the central charge of the current algebra is calculated.

Seasonal predictability of baroclinic wave activity

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science, 2021
Midlatitude baroclinic waves drive extratropical weather and climate variations, but their predictability beyond 2 weeks has been deemed low. Here we analyze a large ensemble of climate simulations forced by observed sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and ...

The dynamics of thin fluid films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Not only are thin fluid films of enormous importance in numerous practical applications, including painting, the manufacture of foodstuffs, and coating processes for products ranging from semi-conductors and magnetic tape to television screens, but they ...

Measurement of Liquid Film Thickness via Light Absorption and Laser Tomography

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
This paper presents film thickness measurement over a vertical falling liquid film, carried out with Light Absorption (LAbs) and a 2D laser tomography techniques known as Level Detection and Recording (LeDaR).

Causal Relativistic Fluid Dynamics

open access: yes, 2011
We derive causal relativistic fluid dynamical equations from the relaxation model of kinetic theory as in a procedure previously applied in the case of non-relativistic rarefied gases.

Subseasonal controls of U.S. landfalling tropical cyclones

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science, 2022
Landfalling tropical cyclones (LTCs) are the most devastating disaster to affect the U.S., while the demonstration of skillful subseasonal (between 10 days and one season) prediction of LTCs is less promising.

Isomorphic classical molecular dynamics model for an excess electron in a supercritical fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Ring polymer molecular dynamics (RPMD) is used to directly simulate the dynamics of an excess electron in a supercritical fluid over a broad range of densities.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Bridging large-scale and coastal variability to improve seasonal sea level predictions along the U.S. and Canadian West Coast

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
Coastal communities are increasingly vulnerable to long-term sea level rise and fluctuations driven by climate variability. While recent advances in coupled climate models enable sea level predictions several months in advance, further efforts are needed
