On the Utility of the Transient Climate Response

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The Transient Climate Response (TCR) is a metric of climate sensitivity relevant to present‐day climate change, but has been less studied than the Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity.

Mesoscopic two-phase model for describing apparent slip in micro-channel flows

open access: yes, 2005
The phenomenon of apparent slip in micro-channel flows is analyzed by means of a two-phase mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann model including non-ideal fluid-fluid and fluid-wall interactins. The weakly-inhomogeneous limit of this model is solved analytically.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Numerical simulation of transom-stern waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The flow field generated by a transom-stern hullform is a complex, broad-banded, three-dimensional phenomenon marked by a large breaking wave. This unsteady multiphase turbulent flow feature is difficult to study experimentally and simulate numerically ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Photoacclimation and Photoadaptation Sensitivity in a Global Ocean Ecosystem Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
Chlorophyll underpins ocean productivity yet simulating chlorophyll across biomes, seasons and depths remains challenging for earth system models. Inconsistencies are often attributed to misrepresentation of the myriad nutrient supply, growth and loss ...

Large eddy simulations of methane oxidation at ultra-wet conditions in a model gas turbine combustor applying detailed chemistry

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2014
The addition of steam to the combustion process is a promising avenue, in order to reduce harmful emissions and simultaneously increase the efficiency. In contrast to traditional flames where the heat release exhibits a thin flame front, operating under ...

The dynamics of quantum fluids

open access: yes
We review experimental and theoretical progress in the physical description of the dynamics of the quantum fluids \he4 and \he3. Historically, the elementary excitations in these systems have been identified as phonons and rotons and, in \he3, collective zero sound and spin-fluctuations.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Exploring multiyear-to-decadal North Atlantic sea level predictability and prediction using machine learning

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
Coastal communities face substantial risks from long-term sea level rise and decadal sea level variations, with the North Atlantic and U.S. East Coast being particularly vulnerable under changing climates. Employing a self-organizing map-based framework,
