Modeling Fluid Flows and Heat Transfer in Industrial Processes Using Gothic Software [PDF]

open access: yesEnergy Engineering, 2004
ABSTRACT Energy conservation measures in manufacturing plants and commercial facilities often involve modifications to convective processes. Examples of equipment used to carry out these processes include heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment, refrigeration equipment, dust collection systems, drying and curing ovens, kilns, and melting ...

Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Three-Dimensional Unsteady Mixed Convection Flow of Non-Newtonian Nanofluid with Consideration of Retardation Time Effects

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The advances in nanotechnology led to the development of new kinds of engineered fluids called nanofluids. Nanofluids have several industrial and engineering applications, such as solar energy systems, heat conduction processes, nuclear systems, chemical

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Experimental investigation of a forced convection heat transfer of the organic fluid R-125 at supercritical pressures and under organic rankine cycle conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is a suitable technology for utilizing low-grade temperature heat sources of ~100 °C from various industry processes. In the ORC cycle an organic fluid with a lower boiling point is used as a working medium.

Mathematical Model for Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer Processes in Plate Exchanger

open access: yesTEM Journal, 2015
Within the analytical solution of the system of equations which solve fluid flow and heat transfer processes, the elliptical and parabolic differential equations based on initial and boundary conditions is usually unfamiliar in a closed form. Numerical solution of equation system is necessarily obtained by discretization of equations.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Arc distribution as a key driver of inclusion redistribution in Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR)

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
A transient numerical model is developed to investigate inclusion transport and entrapment during full ingot growth in the Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) of the nickel-based superalloy GH4720Li. The model resolves the coupled electromagnetic field, melt-pool
