Dispersion Mechanisms of a Tidal River Junction in the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta, California

open access: yesSan Francisco Estuary and Watershed Science, 2014
doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.15447/sfews.2014v12iss4art1In branching channel networks, such as in the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, junction flow dynamics contribute to dispersion of ecologically important entities such as fish, pollutants, nutrients,

Method for the evaluation of minor losses in pulsatile laminar fluid flow

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
This article focuses on description and evaluation of the size of the minor losses in pulsatile laminar flow. It describes a method for determination of minor losses with respect to the phase delay between pressure waveforms and flow waveforms. The whole

Computational Fluid Mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes
A one-equation turbulence model based on the turbulent kinetic energy equation is presented. The model is motivated by the success of the Johnson-King model and incorporates a number of features uncovered by Simpson's experiments on separated flows ...

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

Matrigel inhibits elongation and drives endoderm differentiation in aggregates of mouse embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Stem cell‐based embryo models (SCBEMs) are valuable to study early developmental milestones. Matrigel, a basement membrane matrix, is a critical substrate used in various SCBEM protocols, but its role in driving stem cell lineage commitment is not clearly defined.

Supercavitating flow around high-speed underwater projectile near free surface induced by air entrainment

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
Cavitating flow near free surface is a complicated issue and may provide new inspiration on high-speed surface cruising. This study observes stable supercavitating flow as a new phenomenon in a launch experiment of axisymmetric projectile when the upper ...

Weakly nonlocal fluid mechanics - the Schrodinger equation

open access: yes, 2003
A weakly nonlocal extension of ideal fluid dynamics is derived from the Second Law of thermodynamics. It is proved that in the reversible limit the additional pressure term can be derived from a potential.

Boundaries of photosynthesis: adaptations of carbon fixation in extreme environments

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photosynthesis faces challenges from environmental extremes of temperature, pH, and salinity, limiting gas diffusion, modifying membrane fluidity, and destabilizing photochemical and biochemical reactions. Photosynthetic organisms have evolved unique adaptations overcoming these stresses and maintaining their photosynthetic activity.

Attachment Efficiency of Polydisperse Nanoparticles Wall-Deposition

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
The attachment efficiency when nanoparticles contact with a flat smooth wall is investigated by taking the elastic deformation force, van der Waals force and Stokes resistance into account.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline
