Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Influence of Chemical Osmosis on Solute Transport and Fluid Velocity in Clay Soils

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2020
Solute transport through the clay liner is a significant process in many waste landfills or unmanaged landfills. At present, researchers mainly focus on the test study about semi-membrane property of clay material, however, the influence of chemical ...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Flow under Sluice Gates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The flow characteristics upstream and downstream of sluice gates are studied experimentally and numerically using Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes two-dimensional simulations with a volume of fluid method.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Velocity relaxation of a particle in a confined compressible fluid [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013
The velocity relaxation of an impulsively forced spherical particle in a fluid confined by two parallel plane walls is studied using a direct numerical simulation approach. During the relaxation process, the momentum of the particle is transmitted in the ambient fluid by viscous diffusion and sound wave propagation, and the fluid flow accompanied by ...

Throughflow velocity crossing the dome of erupting bubbles in 2-D fluidized beds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new non-intrusive method for measuring the throughflow velocity crossing the dome of erupting bubbles in freely bubbling 2-D fluidized beds is presented.

Fluid-particle dynamics of nasal drug delivery in a realistic human airway lung model

open access: yes, 2022
Nasal drug delivery provides a rapid onset of therapeutic effects due to the nasal route's large surface area, high blood flow, and ease of accessibility.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

The Measurement of Fluid Velocity and Pressure [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1925
TO a large extent this book is a product of the advent of aeronautics, and its preparation would not have been possible fifteen years ago. The author passed through the period during which no accurate means existed of measuring the velocity of fluids, and was intimately associated with the history of the needs of such methods as he describes.
